Royal Navy assitance to China

Need to be pointed in right direction as to when the British Royal Navy began to lend assistance to China during World War 2. Assume Chinese students sent to UK first--then ships. Also guess possibly 1943? Many thanks in advance.

Hi

Found something pre-war, so far

BAILLIE-GROHMAN, Harold Tom
from 1931 to 1933 and served as an instructor in the Chinese Navy.
He was awarded The Order of Brilliant Jade (Red Cravat with blue & White Border) as
per the London Gazette of 4 June 1937:
"Conferred by the President of the National Government of the Republic of China
in recognition of valuable services rendered by him as an Instructor in the Chinese Navy."

Thanks Andy --what a delightful piece of data--no joke, its the kind of info that helps one keep balance when studying something and points out a new place to find to see it all afresh. Many thanks Andy.
