Mikedc,

Two small pieces to your puzzle. He was wounded 28 Mar 1940. If he was commander of III/LSSAH it must have been a very brief command because Fritz Witt held the command 16 Oct 1940 - 26 Mar 1941.

Hello Pena,

I thought he got wounded on 28-4-1940.
And when we look to the post from HM then I've written down something incorrectly, because he says that he indeed commanded the III. Btl. from 12-40 till ?? but not with the Leibstandarte, no, with SS-Division 'Reich'.....

But I just get my info from the internet and from threads here on the Axis Forum so maybe somewhere it's written down incorrectly as well.

I've the following commanders from III. Bataillon with the Leibstandarte.
SS-Sturmbannführer August-Wilhelm Trabandt(commander ??-36/14-6-40).
SS-Sturmbannführer Carl Peter Marks(commander 14-6-40/1-11-40).
SS-Hauptsturmführer Fritz Witt(commander 1-11-40/12-40).
SS-Hauptsturmführer Ernst Schutzeck(commander 12-40/??).
SS-Sturmbannführer Wilhelm Weidenhaupt(commander 4-41/??).

And thank you Hugo for the wonderfull extra information on Schützeck, that's for sure highly appreciate, it fills up a lot of gaps. But I don't see any mention in your post that he indeed held command at SS-Unterführerschule 'Arnhem' ????

Hello Mike,

Here is my list of III/LSSAH commanders:
?? ??? 36 - 14 Jun 40 Wilhelm Trabandt
14 Jun 40 - 16 Oct or 01 Nov 40 Karl Marx (!)
16 Oct or 01 Nov 40 - 26 Mar 41 Fritz Witt
26 Mar 41 - ?? ??? ?? Wilhelm Weidenhaupt
16 Oct 41 - 30 Apr 42 Albert Frey
?? ??? ?? - ?? ??? ?? Wilhelm Weidenhaupt
14 Feb 43 - 09 Mar 43 Hubert Meyer
09 Mar 43 - ?? ??? ?? Wilhelm Weidenhaupt
?? ??? ?? - ?? ??? ?? Karl Bötcher
A lot of holes and Weidenhaupt seems to be a "mystery man".

You must remember that the Western campaign began on 10th May 1940 ! Schützeck was badly wounded during the battle for Wormhout (28.5.40 and not in March or April !) and he was replaced as commander of II.Battalion by Wilhelm Mohnke (Chef 5.Kp./LSSAH). Schützeck never returned to Leibstandarte : in fact, he was a little bit of a foreigner as he had made his early career within "Germania" and "Der Führer".
