New (2002) ME-262s built

Post by Mark C. Yerger » 13 Apr 2002 13:30

I assume all know a US company is building ME-262s with modern engines and avionics. Any idea who the buyers are and where planes will be located ? A site said first 6 are pre-sold.

Q6: Who are the new owners and when will this information be made available to the public?

A6: Due to the nature of the program, it is really best that these parties reveal themselves, whenever and however they deem most appropriate. Revealing this sort of information could subject future owners to unwelcome attention from the media and well-meaning enthusiasts worldwide, so we have adopted an informal non-disclosure policy in this matter.

Two aircraft are currently sold. One is destined for a private owner in the state of Arizona, while the other (WNr. 501243) has been purchased by the Messerschmitt Foundation in Germany.

Follow the death of CFII President Steve Snyder in June of 1999, a third aircraft became available; thus three machines were uncommitted as of the most recent update.

Thanks Marcus. I'd can't wait to see one at an airshow, it will stop the crowd and no doubt get a lot of cheers.

Great quote from the link:

"Not everyone has been pleased by what they see.

Hammer recalled a woman who came with her husband.

"She was aghast that we would be building these Nazi planes," Hammer said. Afterward, as the woman and her husband left the hangar and drove away, Hammer noticed the make of their car. It was a Volkswagen."

What a ghastly camo and marking scheme.......geez !

JG 7 never had any two seaters anyway.

Seattle has 5/6 in the works with many parts and Chino has the recon version which they have promised the last 5 years they would get back into running order. It is a gorgeous bird !

Are you talking about Mr.Allen's
(co-founder of Microsoft)project.
I read last year about his efforts to restore an original one.It also mentioned about his problems with jewish organisations protesting and threatening wit sabotage.

I do indeed want one as well. It's even better than a Dodge Challenger! But I don't necessarily crave to be the Gruppe Commander.

Scott's right. I think it's really lame they left out the Hakenkreuz. Why bother to apply any markings on the plane at all if your going to be PC about it? :x
