Organization of the Deutsche Jägerschaft

Post by reichpaper » 17 Apr 2008 20:48

    Greetings,
I am interested in the territorial organization of the Deutsche Jägerschaft. As I understand it, Germany was divided into Jagdgaue and Jagdkreise. Is there a list, or even better a map, of the Jagdgaue and Jagdkreise? How about a list of the names of the Gaujägermeisters and Kreisjägermeisters? Further confusing the issue, I understand there were also Landesjägermeisters. Any list of their names as well? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give.

Was there a similar division (and is there a similar list) of the respective equivalents in the "Ostmark"?

The best answer to your question is "maybe". I just purchased a large lot of Deutsche Jaegerschaft magazines and am slowly going through them reverse engineering the organizational structure of the DJ and names of the key personnel. I'll let you know what I come up with.

The full name is Ernst Pichler, who was a builder/miner and who served as Gaujägermeister from 30 April 1938 until the end of the war.

    Another one:

The Gaujägermeister for Salzburg was (the nowadays quite controversial) Eduard Paul Tratz, who was SS-Hauptsturmführer and major member of SS-Ahnenerbe.

Hello and a late Merry Christmas and Happy New Year wish to all of you. I have a question about the relative ranking of the Gau-Jaegermeisters. Was the rank equivalent to an Oberst, or General=Major, in the military? Or was their rank whatever they had in the SA or SS ? Regards, Harry

Gaujägermeister was a duty/service post to which a person was appointed. There was no specific rank associated with that post. The "rank" a person held in the SA, SS or civil service was the rank they held as a Gaujägermeister.

Hi Reichpaper, thank you for a speedy response. Your answer is what I thought, but needed to verify if it was a rank or an apppointment, Harry
