Polish Panzer markings 1945. Photos?

I hope this is the right Forum for this question...

In a Funkspruch dated 25.4.45 from the Heeresgruppe Mitte to the LFl. Kdo. 6 (see scan), markings of Polish Panzer are made available for identification from the air.
(Translation: " Distinguishing marks Polish Panzer and SFL: White Polish Eagle, in addition to that black triangle with white borders. As an identification sign from the air, also on the upper side.")

My question, does anybody have a photo of this, or point me a direction where I can find one? :)

Hi, 1st Polish Armoured Corps didn't used triangles as tactical signs. They were only white eagle and tank's tactical number. See the picture below:

Image

It presents practical signs for:
1,2 - 1st TBr
3,4,5 - 4th Heavy Tank Regiment
6 - 2nd and 4th TBr
7,8 - 3rd TBr
9 - 28th SP Artillery Regiment
10,11 - 16th TBr
12 - 27th SP Artillery Regiment
13 - 5th Heavy Tank Regiment
14,15 - emblems used between 1945 and 1946

source: Wydawnictwo Militaria No. 132 - 1 Korpus Pancerny 1944-1945

And here are examples of decalcomania:

So, there was no triangles.

And here more examples and some photos:

Many thanks, frontowik, for your exhaustive information regarding the Polish panzer markings!
Still I wonder what kind of black triangle the German reconnaissance assume they saw ...if at all...!?

Hi, triangle was a quite popular tactical sign. Many soviet tank or SP units used something looks like triangle. In sector of the Heeresgruppe “Mitte” could be several soviet tank / mechanized units using a triangle as a tactical sign.

The report was send on April 25th, in middle of the Bautzen battle where were involved units of the 2nd Polish Army, 52nd Army (with 7th Guards MC) and later elements 5th Guards Army (with 4th Guards TC). On April 24th fights concentrated in Bautzen and the nearest area, where 7th Guards MC was defending a city and 1st Polish Tank Corps had in the area most of it’s units.

An eagle could be just an imagination of the pilot. It is little probable to recognize that small emblem from the air. Pilot probably knew that in Bautzen area are polish units (but there were soviet units too, like whole 7th Guards MC and 254th Rifle Division) so when he saw a triangle with something inside he simply thought that is an eagle.

But these are only my guesses.

For example, triangle emblem in battle for Berlin was used by 95th TBr of the 9th TC (attached to 3rd Shock Army). Look at picture below:

I disagree. 2nd battalion of mixed Polish-Soviet 16th Armored Brigade used a triangle.
