A rare portrait.
Here is what Wilhelm Saris over at WA forum said about it: "The insignia is the wing for so-called "Fliegerisch tätigen Angestellten der Luftwaffe", civilian specialists that were active in training and instruction. Most often they were experienced pilots or wireless operators.
Functions were: Flugbetriebsleiter, Fliegerkapitän and Flugzeugführer (in fact pilots). They wore the gilt version; Bordfunker (wireless operator) and others wore the aluminum version. Metal and embroidered versions do exist.
As far as I know they were active in the Luftdienstverband, a Luftwaffe unit that was in charge of assisting in the docking of the enormous flying boats.
I think they cooperated closely with personnel from Flugsicherungsschiffe. This personnel often came from the Deutsche Lufthansa-company, the commercial airliner."

I'm loving all of these pictures, the juxtaposition between civil courtroom unions and more elaborate church weddings, but more than that the expressions of the couples. Some of them they both look reserved, some they look downright sour, some the bride looks happy but not the groom, vice versa for a few more, and some actually look like the couple are really in love.

I'd love to see a closeup of the necklace the bride's wearing. It looks like unworked amber, though coral was popular in the 20s-40s too.

That's one of the reasons I love the photos in this thread as well. In this most pivotal event in people's lives, not very much has changed.ladycplum wrote:I'm loving all of these pictures, the juxtaposition between civil courtroom unions and more elaborate church weddings, but more than that the expressions of the couples. HI Vikki,
The bride is wearing a wreath around her neck. The same kind one usually sees the bride wearing in her hair.
It's the first time I have seen something like this.
Cheers,
Larry

Actually I found another in the Polizei photo I posted earlier. It must have been a more common practice than I realized.

That's a great detail, Larry, thanks! I hadn't noticed wreaths being worn around the brides' necks before, either. Though I had noticed that it's fairly common for the groom to wear a "boutonniere" or small spray of greenery and/or flowers, sometimes matching the materials in the bride's bouquet, on their lapel.

Looking back through my collection I have found a few more.
Here's a panzer grenadier and bride portrait.

Panzer. Note the happy but intense stare on the bride's face. The groom who is already a veteran has an almost sad far away look on his face. He knows what is in store for him when he goes back to the front.
