Can anyobody confirm if he was Teacher at Döberitz before becoming Commander of the Division Potsdam?

And can anybody help me regarding his death? In an older issue of "Kameraden" I have read he was killed together with a group of his men after they had already surrendered...was this done by US- or red troops?

Horrido!

This is a rough translation of an article on the website of die Nationaler Beobachter Wernigerode
http://wernigerode.nationaler-beobachte ... ikelId=593

(this is the part that also is mentioned in 'Tagesmeldung van 20 april 1945" von Lage 11 Armee)
"On 19.04. Colonel Fritz Grassau ordered the dissolution of the remaining units of the Division of Potsdam. Colonel Grassau remained with six members of his staff in Wienrode and wanted there to go in American captivity. At 09.00 clock Colonel Grassau went with the rest of the staff unarmed on the open field to R81. Shortly afterwards Wienrode was occupied by the Americans. Nobody knows exactly what happened then and ho w colonel Gras sau and his men were taken. It is only clear that the people of Wienrode found colonel Grassau and his men a little later shot and plundered........"
