Re: Id german optical equipment
They are one version of the 10 x 80 Flakfernrohr binoculars in use:

The thing on top allows the user to rapidly sight the binoculars on a target. There are a number of variants of that as with the binoculars themselves depending on manufacturer.

Ummmhhh...I don´t see any similarity between the Flakfernrohr 10x80 binoculars and this one.T. A. Gardner wrote

I think the Flakfernrohr 10x80 binoculars are exlusively for AA use while the binoculars of my last image seems to be used in anti ship role....

The ones in the picture look nearly identical to many pictures of the 10x80's. These vary some by manufacturer, but those are so close as to be indistinguishable. I don't see a problem with using them for a coast defense role. If anything they'd be more effective in that role than for flak use.Sturm78 wrote:Ummmhhh...I don´t see any similarity between the Flakfernrohr 10x80 binoculars and this one.T. A. Gardner wrote

More than you probably want to know about the 10x80's
Re: Id german optical equipment
Hi T. A. Gardner
I still think many differences between both devices. See the photos:
The last two images are Flakfernrohr 10 x 80 binoculars

So, his official German designation was Doppelfernrohr DF 10x80. I suppose that thsi binoculars were used by Kriegsmarine and the Flakfernrohr 10 x 80 binoculars were used by Lutfwaffe...

Re: Id german optical equipment
Correct. The exact model in the photo is a KM one for their flak guns. The 45 degree Flakfernrohr 10 x 80's seem to be used by all the various branches of the German military, but some specialized ones were procured by the KM for their use. The DF 10x80 has the view pieces mounted at 80 degrees rather than 45 so it's optimized for low angle use up to maybe 45 degrees elevation while the 45 degree sets could be easily used up to nearly vertical.

Re: Id german optical equipment
Hello all. I have an old stereoskopischer Entfernungsmesser but its a bit broken. The knob labeled 'E' on the left seems to have taken a hit and doesn't work properly. AFAIK the knob is responsible for tilting the optics horizontally. So what I want to do is to find some kind of a manual on these things on how are you supposed to disassemble and service them. Here's an album of my current findings. Thanks a lot!
