Hi Brian, I read it a couple of years back and remember enjoying it. I would recommend buying it or perhaps checking it out of your local library - Rob

Rise and Fall of the Third Reich

It's a interesting book but mostly for a beginner.
There are no discoveries and no new elements that could help understand the Third Reich. A book like there are many..

A classic

Brian,
I would certainly recommend it as one of the best histories of the Third Reich ever written, though it does show its age a little now (I was lucky enough to be able to replace my rather tatty paperback edition (The famous black cover with the Swastika on the spine.) with a hard backed 17th impression.).
He also wrote an excellent history of the French Third Republic (Which collapsed as a result of the 1940 invasion.) which helps add depth and understanding.

Enjoy!

BTW Is "Berlin Diary" (Shirer's record of his time in the Third Reich.) currently in print?

Regards from the Park,

Rich

Rise and Fall

His Book The "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" is most informative. I have read it allot of times and come away with new views and remember different topics. I find it full of obscure information and consider it a must read to understand an unbiased view of that time.

I just bought The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich last night at Barnes and Noble. Luckely for a teenager [me], it was in the bargain section so I got the hardcover edition [it still is the black book with the big twisted swastika] for only $15. Pretty good deal I guess. But what makes happier is to hear good words about it.

The guy doesn't like the Waffen-SS very much though - a 'popular knowledge' WWII book, with good info, but very conservative in oppinions...

$15 for a hardback edition is a good buy. Enjoy!

Get it from a library if you can. Save your money for more obscure work that your library wouldn't buy!
