Hi all,

I have for some time these nice colour photos without identifying on my hard drive. Can anyone identify this pieces of artillery?
The images were taken in September 11, 1940 during a parade of Hungarian Army.

The first photo show a barrel trailer with solid rubber tyred wheels being towed by Pavesi tractor. What model?
The second photo show a horse drawn howitzer or gun with limber. What model?

Hello everyone...
IMHO,
the first one is a the barrel of a 21 cm haubits 39.M / Obice da 210/22 modello 35 made by Ansaldo (modified ?)
and
the second is a "10 cm let felthaubits 14/a.M or 14./b.M" / 10 cm light field howitzer m1914 made by Škoda, towed by a 28.M Pavesi P4 tractor

Are they wearing ww1 Austrian-Hungarian uniform and equipment?
Looks very dated!

I think however that you are wrong about the first photo. I put a picture of a Hungarian Ansaldo 210mm Model 1935 howitzer barrel trailer so you can compare. They are very different!!
I think that my photo shows a barrel trailer of WW1-era weapon, modernized with new solid rubber tyred wheels.

Another question: What are the differences between the original Skoda 10cm M14 howitzer and 10cm let felthaubits 14/a.M or 14./b.M? I guess these are two upgraded versions of original Skoda M14 howitzer but I can not see any "modernization". Have anyone more information about these weapons?

I think that first photo shows the barrel/breech assembly of 15-cm 31M howitzer (Bofors license, L/24).
Wheels of barrel trolley are the same style as seen on 31M ordnance (howitzer carriage wheel are just wider) and interupted-screw breech is quite a rare item on Hungarian artillery.

It is possible that you are right, but I still have some doubts. The wheels are very similar to the Bofors designs of the 1930s but this barrel trailer has some archaic features as the seats at the front, typical of trailers pulled by horses of WW1-era. I am surprised that a Bofors design of the 30s still have these seats.

Have anyone any other photo of 15cm or 10.5cm Bofors 31M in service with the Hungarian army?, to compare.

Thank you very much for yor photos. How did this weapon come to Belgrade Military Museum? The Yugoslavian army never had this gun.
The length of the tube and the breech seem too similar. Everything indicates that it is the Bofors howitzer but.....It is difficult to ensure 100%.

Have anyone any wartime picture of this weapon in Hungarian service?

80% of artillery in museum are either captured from enemy or received by allies. Since there are a lot of guns originally held by Hungary & Romania, I suspect these guns were given to Yugoslav Communist Regime by Soviet Union in 1945-46 (from their war booty; for example, Yugoslavia was the biggest post-WWII user of 8.8-cm Flak 36/37s because of these donations)

Have anyone any wartime picture of this weapon in Hungarian service?

I would like to have any, too.

I found a wartime picture of 15cm Bofors howitzer .... in this forum!!! . See http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 3&t=113632.

The picture shows two 15cm Bofors howitzers in firing position in service with Thai Army during WWII. The photo does not clarify the initial question but it is a good picture of a little known weapon.

Hi all,

Well, at last I found a picture of a Bofors 15cm howitzer barrel trailer , although it has not high quality . I'm still not sure if the original color photo with barrel trailer being towed by Pavesi tractor shows a Bofors 15cm howitzer 31M barrel trailer or no.

There are some clear differences: in the last picture the wheels seemed more narrow, not seat at the the front of trailer and no spades. However, the Hungarian model is of 1931 and the Swedish model is of 1938-39 years and it is possible that existed some differences. A difficult question Any idea?

Hi all,

Here, another image from Ebay of this trailer. Probably, a 15cm Bofors 31.M barrel trailer.
It is a pity that from this angle we can not see the barrel.

Has anyone found any other wartime pictures of the 15cm Bofors 31.M hungarian howitzer?
