Museums with Axis equipment

#1

Post by Marcus » 01 Feb 2003, 13:56

Hello all,

I have a section on the site that lists museums that include Axis equipment in their collections and I'd like your help with expanding that section.

Any other museums that should be included?
Additional information on the museums listed?
Corrections to the information listed?
Photos from the museums that I can add to the site?
etc

You can find the list at http://www.axishistory.com/index.php/ot ... -equipment

Falcon Field...

#2

Post by Scott Smith » 01 Feb 2003, 15:10

Below is the FW 190 D-9 at the Champlin Fighter Museum at Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona. They also have a BF 109, a T-34 tank, a MiG-15, a Fokker D VII and a complete selection of WWI aircraft, and an enormous machinegun exhibit. Their website has changed apparently. This is the correct one:

http://www.champlinfighter.com

Also at Falcon Field is the Arizona Wing of the Confederate Air Force (the name was changed for politically-correct reasons but you didn't notice that). I've flown in a B-25 and hope to get a chance to ride in the B-17 someday.

That's very nice, Marcus - I was thinking of m,aking such a thing myself, only with the museums lain out as dots on a map (god for making travel plans).
Just one note: you won't find anf AFVs at Tøjhusmuseet - they've removed them all (Pz.Kpfw. III and Sd.Kfz. 251, amonst others, but they also have a 20mm Fla.K. mint-in-box, never opened, and other stuff) and replaced it with brass guns, of which they own plente already...

Most of this bigger kit was brought back thru the imagination of an Infantry Officer who had nothing better to do after waiting for Demobilization in Holland late '45. He collected and conned the govmt into shipping it back. His name was Farley Mowat. Now, go look for yourself.

That is to bad. Have they been removed from the collections or only from the displays?

They're no longer on display, and noone knows where they are. If we are lucky, they are rusting up in a barn somewhere - otherwise, they have been sold for scrap :(

Brussels Imperial War Museum
Parc Cinqantinere
Brussels
Belgium

Musee de la Bataille des Ardennes en La Roche
La Roche en Ardennes
Belgium

Bastogne Historical Centre
Mardasson
Bastogne
Belgium

there is also a good museum in the centre of Luxembourg City although i cant remeber the name. I think it is the national museum though.

All the above are excellent museums with equal amounts of allied and German paraphinalia.

This link should give more info on these museums http://www.amba.lu/
