it is an abriaviation-I hope i spelled that right! :wink:.well as you hopefully know it is suppose to mean his majesty's ship but what are the word that make up sms...

I won't swear to the spelling, but I think it stands for Seine Majestat Schiffe.

Note the plural approach combining the King & Queen.

The translation is "His Majesty's Ship." It's the male form and only the male form. If the term was connected to the queen (before 1871) or the empress it would be "Ihrer Majestät Schiff". But that's theory.
