Re: Battle of Shimushu
It is an island of Matua. Strange Japanese steam device. Airfield rink or prime mover?

Though the manufacturer plate cannot be read, it will be a steam roller.

Re: Battle of Shimushu
Thank you so much for this information.
I will try to buy the book.
Artillery units of the 91st division in the Russian sources referred to as Kurile artillery regiment land. Both units belonged to the artillery fort Chishima?

Re: Battle of Shimushu
The garrison on Shimushu changed as follows.
Kita-Chishima Fortress was converted to Kata-Chishima Garrison in Feb. 1943
Kata-Chishima Garrision was converted to Chishima 1st Garrison in Aug. 1943
Chishima 1st Garrison was upgraded to 91st Division
Before 91st Division, 1st and 2nd Artillery units were Chishima 1st and 2nd Artillery Units under Chishima 1st Garrison.
In Kata-Chishima Garrison, there were no corresponding artillery units. So, they would be formed when Chishima 1st Garrison was formed.

Re: Battle of Shimushu
The writing on the label is the instruction on measuring the range and height. It will be an AA range finder or radar. But, I am not familiar with them.

It is a periscope cupola on the commander hatch. See below pic.
Did you take a photo on the bottom of the cupola? If so, please upload it.

Thanks for the answer!
Photos bottom of the periscope?
If you want, you can make even more pictures. Sam looks like a periscope Commander collapsed, there were some fragments, without glasses and everything else. He escaped only armored cupola.
Best regards
