SS-Stubaf. Friedrich Engelke

#1

Post by Ian Sayer » 15 Mar 2010, 15:55

Can anybody provide a bio on this SS officer please. I have seen a dossier at the National Archives which states that he was convicted and sentenced for War crimes by the French on the 13th June 1951. There is also an individual of the same name who was being held as a prisoner in Dachau by the SS in April 1945 and I wondered if this might be the same person.

Many thanks

Ian

Thank you Waffen-IDF. On the war crime dossier he is referred to as an SS Colonel but in one specific memo he is mentioned as an Hauptsturmfuehrer who was in charge of the Buying and Distributing Office of Stocks and Commodities in Paris. It seems that he was corrupt and managed to loot a considerable amount of French property!
If anybody has any additional info on this character I would be most grateful.

That must be him then. The SS-WVHA was into those kind of stuff, anything to do with "administration".

Many thanks Dylan. Does anyone know if he was arrested and imprisoned in Dachau before the end of the war?

SS-Stubaf. Engelke, Fritz (Friedrich) was a career administrator, he served with SS-WVHA as SS-Ustuf in Nov 1940 and he was with SS-WVHA as SS-Stubaf in June 1944.

I can also add his NSDAP # 4 887 158.

I have an unverified early note (but I do not know the source) that SS-Hstuf Dr Johann Engelke (born 1904 Hannover) Hauptamt SS-Gericht was transferred to 7 SS "PE" after an investigation of his relation (no name), Johann was later Vermisst.

Thanks for this helpful thread. I found a reference to Engelke in this article from Der Spiegel in 1948: http://www.spiegel.de/spiegel/print/d-44417576.html

Connecting some dots, I posted several items about him on my family history blog.

folgender Link gibt weitere Informationen

http://www.mythoselser.de/niederdorf.htm#fn14

in Hannover gegründet ( Margot Engelke Stiftung )

https://www.hannover.de/Stiftungsinitia ... e-Stiftung

wäre sehr an weiteren Informationen interessiert.

Gruß Wilfried

Hello Wilfried,
Thank you for posting.
I can also confirm that he worked for the SS as an Obersturmbannführer in Paris
and was imprisoned in Dachau Concentration Camp - there as a prisoner on remand for
embezzlement of 250,000 RM from his deputy, Hans or Heinz Kirchhöfer
who shot himself after an interrogation in Aug 1944.
Held on remand until his release (awaiting trial) in Strafvollzugslager der SS und Polizei Dachau.

SS-Untersturmführer Heinz Kirchhöfer (1913–1944).

Stuart. :)
