Hi all, first post here.
Any evidence that anything other than the purpose built towing vehicle was used to tow any of the pieces?
Thanks, john.

During WW2, the Germans used the SdKfz 9 halftrack for towing the 24cm K16 gun....

Thanks for the reply. I got a few 1/72 MGM 24 cm parts (2 base halves and the barrel) for cheap, and was wanting to use something other that the gas/electric thing to tow them with.

The 24cm haubitze 39 looks like the same carriage as the skoda m16?
Re: Skoda 38-42cm photos
No, the 24cm H39 is a different design, although it is also a Skoda design....

The pneumatic-tired trailer could be for the gun barrel.

Hi all,
I would say this is an 38cm or 42cm Skoda M16 howitzer base half part being assembled. I guess that could be also an 24cm Skoda M16 gun....

You know I’ve been thinking about that and I’m not sure. You’re right that for the larger calibers (over 30.5cm) the firing base was in two parts but from what I’ve seen these were generally driven over the pit, jacked up, and then jacked down into the pit when the trailer had left, and so wouldn’t be wheeled around on those small rollers.

According to my information, the assembly process of the base of the 38 and 42cm Skoda M16 howitzers and the 24cm Skoda M16 cannon was as follows:
First: the pit was dug
Second: the two halves of the base were lifted from their trailers by jacks next to the pit, not on it.
Third: the two halves of the base were lowered on rails located next to the pit and were pushed on it by those small rollers
Fourth: once joined the two halves of the base on the pit were lowered by jacks.
