The attached photo shows an abandoned Tiger 1 on a wrecked railway flat wagon (platform wagon or flat car) in bombed German railway yard. I apologize if this photo was posted in this photo series previously.

The photo is dated in the 1945 period and the location listed only 'as somewhere in Germany'. The Tiger 1 shows burn damage on its front section. The burn damage may have been caused by the wrecked railway car in the front of it catching fire or the fire may have been set on purpose when the Tiger was abandoned.

The wrecked railway flat wagon, which appears to be the 80-ton SSyms-type, shows extensive damage, including a severely bent steel frame with the center section deformed outward, in addition to the destruction of its two railcar bogie wheel assemblies (railway trucks). I believe much of this damage was caused by a nearby bomb blast that first lifted the railway flat wagon with the Tiger upward to some unknown height whereupon both crashed downward. It also is possible the bomb blast first bent the railway flat wagon's frame prior to lifting the tank and the flat wagon upward.

The damage to the two railcar bogie wheel assemblies appears to result from impact of the heavy railway flat wagon smashing into them when it fell back down. The damage does not appear to be caused by a demolition charge due to the positions of the parts and the extensive damage to the bogie frames, axles and wheels.

The bogie wheel assembly impact damage could occur because these are not permanently attached to the flat wagon; instead, each one is held in position by a large vertical center pin on the flat wagon that engages into a mating vertical hole in the center of each bogie. This arrangement would enable both bogie wheel assemblies to drop off the railcar and remain on the track when the flat wagon was blown upward, then be crushed by the flat wagon when it dropped back down.

The railway wagons on each side of the Tiger 1 flat wagon are destroyed and show some degree of fire damage. I believe this fire damage caused the burned surfaces on the front section of the Tiger.

If any members have additional information about this Tiger 1, please add it to aid the discussion.
