Pontoon Bridges and assault boats

#1

Post by Clive Mortimore » 22 Jul 2010, 22:24

Hi All

I hope this request is in the correct section of the forum. I am slowly gathering information about the bridging and assault boat equipment operated Poineer units. My question is, did the German army use bridging equipment they captured from other armies as they did weapons, tanks and trucks? If so can any point me in the right direction so that I can build on the information I have.

Thanks

Clive

Thanks for the photo Sturm.

The bridge looks like a 8 tonne Bruckengerat B. Bruckengerat B could be made into a 8tonne bridge using half pontoons as in the photo or a 16tonne bridge with the potoon coupled together.

While I was going through "Beute- and Umbauwagen" thread I came across a photo of a train load of captured British Albion pontoon carrying lorries. I cannot see any Poineer Quatermaster saying they would not be welcomed.

I now have the German Combat Engineers book, a nice collection excellent photos. Cheers Sturm for the two latest examples. The top one is of a 8 ton bridge using B equipment. The other has used large model 35 rubber boats for the pontoons.

Back to my opening question, I have recently found out that some German units used ex-Czech bridges, “Herbert -Gerat”. I have not been able to locate any photos or other details as yet.

Hi all,

I found this interesting image on Ebay. A german pontoon ferry with a 15cm sFH18 carriage and.... a turretless T-34 tractor!! 8O . I never had seen this combination. I do not know which is the model of the boat. I do not think Sturmboot 39. :?

Hi Sturm

The boat is a Motorboot 36 as in the second photo in this post http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 0#p1486783. The raft is a 16 ton made from Brucken Gerate B equipment.

Thank you very much for your information, Clive.

Do you have more information and/or images of Motorboot 36?

Are the boats of the second photo of this link (http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 9&start=15) Motorboots 36?
