Hello to all :D; something more.........................

KpLt Willy-Roderich Körner and U 301.

Kapitänleutnant Willy-Roderich Körner was born in Berlin-Wilmersdorf on December 26, 1914 and died at the age of 28 on January 21, 1943 in the Mediterranean.

He had previously commanded the U 120 (type II B) from May 1941 until February 1942 but did not run combat patrols.

The U-301 was a submersible type VII C which had entered service on May 09 of 1942 and carried out three war patrols without achieving any sinking at the time she was destroyed. Willy-Roderich Körner was her first and only commander. She was sunk on January 21, 1943, by the British submersible HMS P. 212 "Sahib" approximately in a position 41º 27' N., 07º 04' E.

Hello to all :D; may be someone around here could help with some doubts. I think the U-Boat depicted here was U 40 but AFAIK U 25 under Viktor Schutze had the same camouflage scheme on its conning tower, so my inquiry..

Hello to all :D; looking around it was indeed the U 25 and by then Hartmann was leading the 2º U-Flotille (besides he was wearing his RK). Cheers. Raúl M 8-).

Hello to all :D; something more................

KpLt Kurt Freiwald and the U-7.

Kapitänleutnant Kurt Freiwald was part of the U-boats branch from the beginning and since July 18, 1935 took command of U 7 (date of commissioning of that boat) which held until the fall of 1936 when he assumed command of U 33 during Operation Ursula (operations in Spanish waters during the civil war). This officer was an expert in torpedoes. As important characteristic he was the lowest rank official to be part of the court of honor that expulsed the Kriegsmarine Reinhardt Heydrich, gaining for him a powerful enemy.

Kurt Freiwald also would command the U 21 and during the war, as Fregattenkapitän, U 181 with which reached the Far East and carried out two patrols (225 days) sank 5 ships (35,067 tons).

Hello to all :D; a new story...................

KpLt Hannes Weingärtner and the U-16.

Hannes Weingärtner was the second officer who commanded the submersible and the first who led it into WW II; here is the first peculiarity, in various sources for case ubootwaffenet - u-history - uboatnet among the most important were cited as commanders

05/16/1936 to 09/29/1937 KL Heinz Beduhn
09/30/1937 to 10/11/1939 KL Hannes Weingärtner
10/08/1937 to 10/17/1939 OL ~ KL Udo Behrens
10/12/1939 to 10/25/1939 KL Horst Wellner

Nevertheless the BdU's KTB tell nothing about Behrens

12. Oktober 1939 Kplt. HORST WELLNER übernimmt U 16

Anyway Hannes Weingärner was born in Austria (as Adolf) on July 11, 1908 and died at age of 35 on March 27, 1944 while commanding the U 851; after having been flotilla commander returned to command a submarine (how common was this regression?). At the command of U 16 carried out two operational patrols and sank a ship for a total of 3378 tons. Previously also commanded the U 4 and U 10.

Can someone recognize Weingärtner in the picture below? TIA. Cheers. Raúl M 8-).

Nevertheless the BdU's KTB tell nothing about Behrens
looking into uboat.net you can see that info on Behrens is partially faulty.

he is listed as being CO of two submarines at the same time, and, additionally, the first year of command (1939) is given as "1937"

It is impossible to be CO of U 16 and CO of U 24 in transit from Kiel to Wilhelmshaven at the same time.
