In an effort to train the Italian submarine crews, the Germans claim that Italian commanders set to sea on German U-boat war patrols and conducted training exercises as integral members of U-boat crews. Italian Commander Primo Longobardo was one of few examples of the occurrence of such cross training. It should be noted that Longobardo, as captain of the submarine Torelli, was one of the most successful captains in the Atlantic fleet, accounting for four allied ships sunk in just one patrol (January 1941).

Hello to all ; more. Moehle and the "Laconia Order"!
Written declaration of Karl-Heinz Moehle on the order of Laconia, June 17, 1945.
"Each rescue measure contradicts the most primitive demand for war on the destruction of ships and crews," said Moehle's order on shipwrecked men. As Flotille Cmdr, Moehle transmitted it orally to submarine commanders.
Two weeks after the sentence was pronounced against Dönitz in Nuremberg, the trial against Moehle began in Hamburg. The prosecution argued that according to the agreement signed by Germany to apply the Hague Land War Act of 1907 in maritime warfare, all parties at war were required to protect the shipwrecked. The court handed down Moehle's conviction based on the argument that his transmission of the "Laconia order" violated international law.
On October 16, 1946, after a two-day trial, a British military court in Hamburg sentenced him to five years in prison. In 1949, Moehle was released a little earlier.

Died April 23, 1943 in the North Atlantic east of Cape Farewell, when his boat U 189 was sank.

Do you have a picture of Karl-Heinz Moehle after when he was released from prison in 1949? A picture of Karl-Heinz Moehle in the 1950's. Did he later joined the Bundesmarine?

Born May 2, 1916 in Oberweissbach, Thuringia. He entered the Kriegsmarine in 1936. Promoted to Leutnant z. S. on October 1, 1938. He was subsequently assigned to the Luftwaffe from September 1939 to January 1941. Training in the U-Boat Branch from January to June 1941. IWO of U 576 (Kapitänleutnant Hans-Dieter Heinicke) from June 1941 to March 1942. Commanders School April and May 1942.

May and June 1942 Baubelehrung of U 223 and from June 1942 Commander of U 223 until January 12, 1944. From November 12, 1944 to May 04, 1945 Commander of U 2503. On May 4, 1945, U 2503 was badly damaged by British aircraft and then scuttled. Kplt. Karl-Jürg Wächter, IWO Heinrich Gissel and Erwin Christophersen, the former commander of U 228 and U 3028, were killed in the airstrike.

Gentlemen,

I just found out from a new member of the "Gentleman's Military Interest Club" that Karl-Heinz Moehle was since 1949 was renamed Karl-Heinz Moehle von Hoffmannswaldau and was in the Bundesmarine in the 1950's and 1960's. I still need to know what was his highest rank before Moehle von Hoffmannswaldau retired from the Bundesmarine. A picture of Moehle von Hoffmannswaldau in Bundesmarine uniform is also needed. Thank you.
