Wehrmacht Medical Care in Photos and Documents

Post by Svetlana Karlin » 25 Jan 2011 22:36

I've been researching a subject of medical care for sick and wounded in Wehrmacht from first aid at the front to hospitals and convalescence facilities in Germany proper. I've assembled a collection of photos showing various aspects of the medical service under wartime conditions: hospitals, personnel, transportation, equipment, first aid, vaccinations, dental care, etc., which I'd like to share.

I looked for a thread with the same content here but didn't find it. If I missed a similar thread, please move my posts there. There is a thread on medical transport vehicles, but wounded and sick were transported not only by car, but also by horse, train, airplane and boat, so the pictures of the latter could go here. As always, your pictures and other input are greatly appreciated.

For the starters: photos from a Wehrmacht hospital in Smolensk, dated November 1941. Source: BPK.

Nice thread Linkar.

Here's a little series from a Stabsarzt photo album. He served in the 16 Inf. Division.

Hi Larry,

Thank you for sharing your photos! Sorry, I haven't visited the forum for a long while because of the craziness at my work as we have moved to a new office.

Is there any indication where the photo with the children was taken? It looks like Germany or Austria to me.

Here are a few press photos from BPK showing similar, albeit more formal, visits in German hospitals in the beginning of the war.
