A Prague museum famously displays what they claim is heydrichs Mercedes coupe, but when you look at it, the damage looks man made...with a tin opener.... The model is correct.

Depends if it was possible to even repair that broken car from 5/27/42 assassination. It could IMO simply end as a possession of either Red Army or CS officials, when Heydrich family fled Czechoslovakia after the war.

There was a mention on another thread about the assassination where his car was mentioned as being in a private collection, after being repaired. Try the site search. Of course, he had more than one car.

The hinge bracket for the folding top is clearly different.

The end of the running board where it attaches to the rear fender is undamaged on the museum car. In the 1942 photo, that area, including the front part of the fender, is mangled.

Found this on the net

Who's to know what is the truth?

photographs from the site of the attack show, that these old repairs are exactly matching the damage from the bomb blast. Experts from Military Historical Institut confirmed that and they will send the car to police forensic experts. The founder and owner of the car is of course delighted and already said that he will donate the car to the military museum.
Apparently the car was confiscated in 1945, then served with police for some time, then it was stored in army reserves, then most likely sold or something as it was again in the evidence in early 1960s and then the owher left it to rust in the barn, as it seems.

Good observation on your part Mauser. Also, in the original picture, the rear bumper does not appear to be damaged but on the museum display model, it is clearly sprained outwards. The centre of the wheel is a different pattern and if you look carefully at the tire, the pattern on the rubber side wall seems to be different where it meets the tread.

No one knows for sure, but if it is the original car, some things have certainly been changed.

RE: http://zpravy.idnes.cz/foto.aspx?r=doma ... domaci_pje

Very interesting!

I don't believe the car currently in the Prague museum is Heydrich's due to the several differences noted in above posts, but the Mercedes that Mr. Cvancara is examining very well could be. The bomb damage bodywork could have been repaired without much trouble returning a very high quality and valuable car to service. The front bumper is different on the Cvancara car, but if the car was in use, that certainly could have replaced at sometime after the repair.

I plan on keeping an eye on this story to see what develops.
