Nice pics. I read recently in a Kursk book about troops moving up and passing an artillery battery and the crew were casualties.

This sort of brings up... "Didn't the German's make the HE shells 'bore-safe' like other armies?" My understanding is that there is a spring loaded element in the fuse that does not allow it to be armed till it has stopped accelerating. Basically, as the spring relaxes once clear of the muzzle, that amount of time also makes it actually not armed for a distance of 50 meters or so.

A good report regarding using Hummel and Wespe...
3. The 150 mm Hummel howitzer proved itself worse. Since two barrels burst for an unknown reason, the battery was only left with 4 guns on July 22nd (the chassis remained undamaged).
