Commander of Luftnachrichtenabteilung of Legion Condor
Maybe someone know his name? Is he a future Luftwaffe general?

Hi Alif,

The Luftnachrichtenabteilung of Legion Condor was Luftnachrichten-Abteilung 88 (mot.) Please see here for more info, including commanders: http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gli ... lung88.htm

All made it to GenLt or GenMj. As three of them I would describe as skinny or on the thin side, I am confident it was Otto Lindner.

Larry, I am no expert in Legion Condor uniform. But he had three stars like Richthofen or Plocher so perhaps already a senior field officer.

Cheers

Elwyn -

The information I provided is accurate. I have zero, zip, nada knowledge of Condor Legion uniforms so I can't comment on the photo. Some of the other Kdre. who preceeded Bauerschäfer did become general officers in the Luftwaffe. Perhaps you can check them out here:

http://geocities.com/~orion47/WEHRMACHT/

For example, Aldo Saul was Kdr. 20 Oct 37 to 30 Jun 38 and was later promoted to Generalmajor on 1 Dec 43. This link has undergone several changes over the last several years so leet me know if it works.

LINDNER, Ingo

http://geocities.com/~orion47/WEHRMACHT ... _INGO.html

It just says he was "signals officer with operations staff 88", but no mention of him being Kdr. He later became a Generalleutnant.

10 years has passed, but I believe now we have the answer: Walter Bauerschäfer! Here is as an Oberst.

Just a comment on the LC uniform(s): It appears that the intention was to wear a uniform of "olive-brown" as in the Spanish nationalist army. I have seen photos on line of soldiers who look like Germans in well fitting brown unis with Spanish rank markings on a galleta above the left breast pocket.

That said, LC personnel also appear in Spanish "monos" (one piece coverall) as well as all sorts of combinations of dress as is always common in the field.

Headgear is the "side cap" type worn by German personnel of all services until the early1940s, but without the tassel common on Spanish gorilla caps. There are also photos of them in the gorilla, but again with no tassel.

Junior officers wore six-point silver stars on branch-colour backing, 3 stars the rank of Oberleutnant, with local Spanish rank of Captain.
Field officers wore gold stars with eight-points; 2 stars the insignia of Major, with local Spanish rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.

A single large eight-pointed star identified a L.C. Hauptmann ( Captain ), next to a L.C. Leutnant, 2 six-point stars.

I think this pic shows Ingo Lindner, on the right.
