Nembo Battalion
Hello,
I believe this maybe a postcard for the Nembo Battalion. It is a 1944 RSI recruitment card by Geno Boccasile. Does this look like their uniforms? What is the history of the Nembo Unit? How long did they fight at Anzio? Could it be another RSI airborne unit?
James

Members of Nembo and Folgore parachute Divisions joined 4th FJD after the Italian armistice with the Allies. These men fought well beside their german comrades. The 4th was formed in Italy in December 1943 and composed of the 10th, 11th and 12th Parachute regiments. It saw action at Anzio in January 1944 where it took heavy casualties. It battled on in the campaigns in Italy until it finally surrendered near Vincenza in northern Italy in May 1945.
The photo posted above shows the mixture of clothing that had become typical in both italian and german paratroopers towards the end of the war in Italia. The Nembo para wears an italian paratroop helmet and german splinter-pattern( 3rd pattern) jump smock.
Regards. Óscar
