I'm afraid this isn't much, but I found this little story very interesting. Somebody actually discovered that the author of the book, Erich Remarque, actually served more or less alongside a certain Gefreiter Adolf Hitler at Passchendale in 1917.

I dispute that Hitler-Remark connection.Hitler was not in the 16th Regiment,10th Bavarian Division. He was in the 16th Bav Reserve Regiment,6th Bavarian Reserve Division. His Division did not fight at Ypres in 1917---it was pulled out of the line just before the British 30th July attack.

dera moulded, i read the same link about remarque and hitler crossing paths and wondering if the story was reliable. hhmmm. do you know where hitler and his unit were compared to where remarque and his unit were at this time? how far apart? is it still possible that they could have crossed paths if the units were at least fighting in the same area?
