NSKK

The "motorized Volkssturm"

Until the end of the war, the NSKK put its capacities at the service of Driver training for the "Volksgenossen". The motor corps was set to work
of the "Volkssturm" launched in October 1944, which included the was the last state-organized attempt to prevent the fall of the "Third Reich."
The aim of non-drafted men was to mobilize the last defensive reserves and to strengthen the perseverance of the population.

With regard to the special status and the claims of the branches, Hitler appointed the Chief of Staff of the SA Wilhelm Schepmann "Inspector of Shooting Training" and NSKK Corps Leader Erwin Kraus as "Inspector for Engine Training" in the "Volkssturm". Apart from the express commandos, NSKK men formed motorized transport companies and workshop repair companies within the "Volkssturm".

When the "Stabsführer des Deutschen Volkssturm", SS-Oberguppenführer and General of the Waffen-SS Gottlob Berger, approved the NSKK's express commandos, this measure met with resistance, especially in the party chancellery, because they saw it as a fragmentation of the bundled forces. Bormann, who believed he could satisfy Kraus with an advisory post, had to agree to the Schnellkommandos anyway. He insisted, however, that the units also include non-NSKK members and that they subordinate them to the local "Volkssturm" authorities stayed. Thus the independent position of the NSKK in the "Volkssturm" sought by Kraus was ineffective.

As the list of the motorized "Volkssturm" shows, the higher-ranking leaders of the NSKK - like most of the functionaries of the other NS branches
and organizations - willing to the last to obey the orders of the "Führer" However, fuel and vehicle shortages in the final months of the war make it unlikely to have thorough training and an effective use of the motorized units was still possible.

The last contingent in the automotive sense symbolized the special courses organized by the NSKK in 1944 on special vehicles for
Driving license applicants with leg and arm amputation. The motorized deployment of soldiers injured in the war illustrates the absurd
Fanaticism of the regime, which did not stop at war victims any more than it did at young people and old people, as long as it was valid
To prolong war at any cost.

Panzervernichtungseinheiten der HJ

The to 16- and 17-year-old Hitler Youths who were upgraded to “men” advanced “during their deployment [to] soldiers in the sense of the
Defense Act "

In agreement with Himmler, Bormann decided at the end of October 1944 that all members of the Hitler Youth born in 1928 - and the young
people of the years who had been declared unfit for use up to now 1925 to 1927 - to be trained in the HJ-Wehrertüchtigungslagern until March
1945 and then to be handed over to the Wehrmacht.

Young people had to be integrated into the "local units of the German Volkssturm" and all "leaders of the Hitler Youth", "insofar as they were not
used for military training camps", should "be used in the German Volkssturm according to their abilities, like all other structural leaders"

With these decisions, the normal operations of the Hitler Youth and most of the other forms of war operations previously practiced have in fact
been abandoned. The main efforts now focused on the work in the Volkssturm, whose third contingent finally included 600,000 HJ members born between 1925 and 1928, who were in Ban training and military training camps were prepared for their frontline deployment.

Already participation in these military training and upgrading camps was recognized as participation in the third contingent. Most of the members
of these years were, however drafted into the Wehrmacht in autumn 1944; in March 1945 there were also drafts from the class 1929, after
members of this year group in February had been brought to the Volkssturm.

Although Bormann had on March 7, 1945 under repeal earlier instructions issue the order that members of the 1928/29 born within the framework
of the Volkssturm should not be used for combat missions, but who should and wanted Check that in the last days of the war and then reverse it?

The members of these years of the Hitler Youth came as HJ units within the Volkssturm, as independent units and combat troops, or as HJ groups integrated into troops of the Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS for use at the front. Together with the workforce from military training camps, from teacher training institutions, from Adolf Hitler schools and National Political Educational Institutions are combat missions by members of the Hitler Youth in Austria, in Burgenland, Lower Austria, Vienna and Styria, in northern Germany, on the Rhine and Ruhr and the German western regions as well as in East Prussia and Silesia, in West Prussia and Pomerania and finally on the Oder and in Brandenburg; Almost everywhere Hitler Youth units stood at anti-tank barriers, worked in association with Wehrmacht units, were at the Defense of Königsberg and - in independent battalions - of Breslau involved; she also fought outside the old imperial borders, for example in Transylvania, in the Serbian Banat and in Hungary. In a series of reports, numerous missions by Hitler Youth members in the so-called final battle are handed down, young people and children who in their courage to death generated by miracle weapon propaganda, perseverance slogans and court jurisdiction, in their despair of death paired with desperation and hopelessness and finally in their senselessness death to remind of a modern, albeit mostly unnamed, nameless 'Langemarck', which has been multiplied many times.

A special and so far hardly examined form of the war effort formed the beginning 1945 set up Panzervernichtungseinheiten der HJ whose formation to the desperate Attempting was part of stabilizing the main battle line, which was constantly being moved backwards especially to stop the breakthroughs of the advancing Soviet tanks. Early February 1945 - in Yalta, Stalin, Churchill and Roosevelt were just agreeing to coordinate the military Operations and decided to divide Germany into four zones of occupation while the Red Army had reached the Oder near Küstrin and the troops of the Americans and British from Aachen were marched up to the Saar on the Westwall - was by the staff leader of the HJ,
Helmut Möckel, the 1st Panzervernichtungs-Brigade of the Hitler Youth, initially composed of young volunteers, set up in Radebeul, Saxony.
Those made up of four battalions each, with the brigade consisting of three to four companies initially had a strength of 2,400 men and was
initially subordinated to the leadership of the Volkssturm operation. After a first assignment in Dresden, at After the Allied air raids on February
13th and 14th, the brigade was deployed for salvage work. It was moved to Zossen, south of Berlin, where the headquarters of
Colonel General Heinz Guderian, the Army Chief of Staff, was located.

The Reich Youth Leader Axmann was in charge after the accidental death of Staff Leader Möckel formally taken over by the Panzervernichtungs-Brigade, although this was de facto led by Hitler Youth leader Otto Kern. At the beginning of March, the Hitler Youth, equipped with bazookas,
were in the area between Fürstenwalde and Frankfurt / Oder on both sides of the Reichsautobahn stationed and directly subordinated to the 9th Army. Their commander, General Theodor Busse, drove his demoralized associations with draconian severity - after standing courts the condemned were immediately fusilized in the face of the troops - on the Oder to ruthless counter-attacks. When it became obvious that the attacks by the
Red Army could no longer be stopped, the Panzervernichtungs-Brigade, which had now grown to 4,200 men, was split up; 2,000 men remained
with the 9th Army in the Beeskow, Storkow and Strausberg area, 700 Men were marched into Gotha in Thuringia against the advancing Americans
and 1,500 men to the Berlin city commander for house-to-house fighting in the Reich capital subordinated to where they are mainly in the area of the Charlottenburger Kaiserdamm in the defense of the Reich Youth Leadership were involved; in the last days of the war the remnants of the
1st tank destruction brigade as part of the 12th Army led by Walther Wenck.

Obviously from the actually not insignificant and propagandistically upgraded Impressed shooting figures, Reichsjugendführer Axmann decreed at
the last regional leader conference of the HJ in mid-March 1945 that the remaining boys of the In each of the oldest HJ years, a
Panzervernichtungs-Brigade was to be set up and instruction in close combat against tanks was to be enforced in the military training camps.
According to the Leader of the HJ area in East Hanover, Helmuth Eiffert passed on to his Bannführer on March 23rd still existing boys of the respective location should be educated. These had on To expand "armored-endangered points" and "to defend them in the event of an alarm". the express instruction: "Leaving the specified place is prohibited" , implied that the 16- and 17-year-olds were required to fight down to the "last cartridge". have been divided into tank destruction squads and armored security squads in a ratio of one to three occupancy. While the Panzervernichtungseinheiten with bazookas Spades, blinding and incendiary devices, smoke hand grenades, mines and "concentrated loads" were equipped, the security troops had carbines, small-bore rifles and hunting shotguns at their disposal “Small arms and close-range tank weapons
[are] made by the Hitler Youth and provided ".

The task of the extermination troops was to “defend permanent accommodation and to make barriers ", and the security troops had "from
prepared positions the To take over security for the extermination troops, especially against mounted infantry [and] disembarking crews and,
after executing the order, to enable the extermination troops to evade ". Although it was known in the Reich Youth Leadership and the HJ area leadership that" in accordance with the Führer's order "of March 7, 1945, those born in 1928 and below "Were not allowed to be used in combat", after a redefinition of the action - "Special operations" of younger youths were allowed - "ordered" that "15-20% of the youths born in 1929 should
be used to set up these commands". For the tank warning service, which was set up parallel to the close-quarters combat troops, the Bannführer should even call in members of the 1932 to 1934 age groups and BDM members who were in the "Tank detection and reporting service to be
trained".

The original intention, the tank melee units not in the main battle line but only to be used in the rear against tanks that had broken through the front line do not materialize because of the dynamics of the development of military events, especially since the local military, largely cut off
from functioning command structures Leaders literally reached out to everyone, and youngsters at the forefront as well used. On the modalities
of the military deployment of those only to be recruited by it The Reich Youth Leadership no longer had any influence on young people, neither
with the 1st Panzervernichtungs-Brigade in Berlin, nor with the Panzervernichtungs-Brigade "Feldherrnhalle", which operates in the Defense
training camp Varcha in Thuringia was built.

So also on the western front; there "the use of the Panzervernichtungseinheiten was discussed with the Commander-in-Chief West or Army Group
G" and "the [Hitler Youth] units [were] directly subordinated to the armies ". On April 22, 1945, the Red Army was already in the suburbs from
Berlin, and Stuttgart had just been occupied by the 1st French Army, the repaid Representative of the Reich Youth Leadership to the Commander-
in-Chief West, who von Axmann also dealt with Ernst Ferdinand commissioned the management of the Panzervernichtungseinheiten in the west
and south-west Overbeck, the military district command XIII report on the state of the Panzervernichtungs-Brigades on the western front.

According to Overbeck, who was also the leader of the HJ area Bayreuth, there was the Bavarian Ostmark Panzervernichtungs-Brigade in the
Cham, Reichenbach and Roding area with five battalions of 2,750 young people, the HessenNassau brigade with four battalions and 1,600 boys
in Waldmünchen (one Battalion was south of Eger), the Moselland Panzervernichtungs-Battalion was 600 in strength Man on the march from the Fichtelgebirge to Cham, as well as the Panzervernichtungseinheiten der HJ areas of Düsseldorf and Mittelland, whose strength Overbeck was
unable to communicate, “there a major failure due to enemy action is to be expected ". He also had no precise reports about the condition of the Panzervernichtungseinheiten der HJ area Sudetenland" at the moment The three Panzervernichtungs-Bataillone des Gebietes Franken, with a strength of 1,200 Boys were deployed in the Nuremberg area, which was reached on April 19 by American tanks should not be planned any more: "Their total failure is to be expected."

When Bormann called in March 1945 under the keyword “werewolf”, “as soon as possible and to make greater use of all possibilities in order to reduce the attack power of our enemies ", he initially thought of acts of sabotage on the logistical structure of the Allies; "Only determined
Brave men and women [!] of all ages "considered Bormann" for these special combat tasks suitable ". The Gauleiter should name a" reliable activist of the movement "who" had a special knowledge of human nature "and was able to" carry out his work with the necessary secrecy "and commission him with the development of regional werewolf structures. This should with the help of the high officials of the NSDAP, the leaders of their
branches as well as from employees of the NSV, the DAF and the NS-Frauenschaft "to get in touch with the relevant group of people as quickly as possible"

It is not known that the Party Chancellery used any Hitler Youth leader as an organizer or leader of werewolf associations or that regional Hitler Youth units were used as werewolf associations. In the more recent representations presented variants of the werewolf as a widely ramified, well-organized underground organization that operated well into the post-war period, based on an "Axmann Plan" was based, according to which -
parallel to acts of sabotage and camouflaged commercial enterprises - in the form of the German youth "völkisch substance" held together for so long, should be preserved and preserved until the seemingly inevitable break between the The Allies entered and the Germans on the side of the Western powers for a "final battle" against the Soviet Union would appear to be far exaggerated wanted to . The numerous who practiced under
the heading “Werewolf” in all occupation zones and mostly unjustified internment of young people in the post-war period, especially
led to deportations, forced labor and death sentences in the Soviet occupation zone, had their starting point more in the Nazi propaganda fiction internalized by the occupation authorities than in the reality of youthful werewolf activities.

Parallel to Bormann's efforts to bring a werewolf movement into being, Reichsjugendführer Axmann gave at the "Day of Obligation of the Youth", which was held for the last time on March 26, 1945, of the "National Socialist war youth fighting in the Hitler Youth [!] the watchword for parole
in the coming period of the decision ". This in the last Annual slogan for the Hitler Youth summarized task, which in turn leads to a total, this time
even, The aim of capturing individual body parts and functions and mobilizing the young people was to use all their strengths to turn the tide
with the diligence of their hard-working people Hands, the intelligence of their young minds and above all the bravery of their young hearts ".

In view of the military situation - the entire left bank of the Rhine was in Allied hands, the 3rd US Army had the line Frankfurt, Offenbach, Hanau exactly on the "day of engagement" and Aschaffenburg, and Danzig was about to be captured - but above all in the face of it the fact that Hitler
had already a week earlier with the "Nero order" the destruction, "all [r] military, transportation, news, industrial and utility equipment "
had decreed and thus no longer believed in a turnaround in the war, this renewed "obligation" received one particular perfidy. Reich Youth Leader Axmann grasped the "sense" of this obligation in the The slogan together: "The youth of Adolf Hitler [!] Must become the center of our national resistance [!]". the youth must "passionately" confess: "We never surrender". Even the "apparently insurmountable material superiority" of the opponent should the Hitler Youth members "unswervingly in the belief in one's own strength and strength of hearts and weapons "oppose.

To increase motivation, Axmann's invitation served to “fulfill the legacy of our favors and the shame that a blind enemy of our homeland, our mothers, is and sisters doing to avenge ", and a description of the situation that seems to have no alternative:" There is no more going back, just a forward. There is only one action to the last consequence. There is only victory or downfall. "And in continuation of this manipulation technique, Axmann demanded:" Be limitless in love for your people and equally limitless in hatred of them Enemy. It is your duty to watch when others get tired, to stand when others give way. But your greatest honor is your unshakable loyalty to Adolf Hitler. "
