German Bombing of Belfast in 194x

#1

Post by Bene » 27 Apr 2002, 22:17

Hi!

I read about a german bombing raid on Belfast a few weeks ago, and I am very interested in:

1.) When this bombing raid was (in the aircraft-battle over Britain)??

2.) How they managed to get there (isn't it quite far away from Germany)?

3.) Which aircraft they used?

Thanks in advance...

Thanks Marcus, this was really fast!!
Do you have a link database or something?? :-)

But I have still one question, I didn't find anything about it: Which airplanes were involved, I mean, which airplanes did the Germans use?

Greetings

Bene

Also the sole official aid to the Allies by Eire during the war - Dublin sent firemen at the request of the Belfast Fire department.

The German air raids on Belfast were conducted from the Netherlands and northern France. More info on the Belfast Blitz is available at this link:

Belfast didn't and never has had a Fire Department, it was the Fire Brigade, please east of the Atlantic we care about such things. You'll be using Wiki a a source next.

Not only from Dublin but from several towns south of the border. Refugees crossed the border (without problems) and even the Irish red cross assisted. Official or not (I’m sure the germams knew) there’s also the “Donegal Corridor“, intel gathering, weather reporting etc. So a lot more (civilian and military) aid was given by the south.

I could careless about the title of the fire department or whatever lofty name they call themselves. The source is "In Time of War - Ireland, Ulster and the price of neutrality 1939-1945" by Robert Fisk. Page 487. The Irish then were no different then they are now - Problems in England? Good! Can we help make things more difficult just because we can? Lets do it!

Perhaps you should keep your lofty ideas to your self too.
