OCR software to translate Russian to English

Post by Felix C » 25 Mar 2013 15:46

Hello Everyone,

Working on researching Russian sources for a project and have to admit the Russian language is too much for me. What is your translating software of choice?

Really appreciate any opinions from those who have walked the same road before.

Automatic translations tools are only really useful if you have at least some knowledge of the language being translated. You really need to know how bad the translation is and it is almost always a question of how BAD. That being said I personnally use Prompt Translator (texts), Reverso (single words) and Lexilogos Latin to Cryllic Convertor. After using these tools you get a texts that needs to be carefully checked and corrected by hand.

Hi Felix.
I don't want to sound rude, but why don't you use Google Translate? It's pretty advanced and translates pretty accurately. Perhaps you shouldn't overpay for the software. However, I do not know the scope of your research, but I translate all my work through Google, and the translation seemed to me quite accurate (I discussed it with a native Russian speaker).
