Id. Finnish equipment
Re: Id. Finnish equipment
Finnish Self-Propelled Artillery?
Hello chaps - can anyone help me identify the field gun which is being used in the following photos please?
I know the trucks are Citroen C45s - part of the batch provided by the Germans in lieu of the Ford V3000 shipment intended for Finland that they pinched!
SA KUVA: Photo No. 28989
SA KUVA: Photo No. 39873
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Steve,
IMO N:o 39873 is a 105 H/41.

+1, that is obviously 105 H/41.peeved wrote:IMO N:o 39873 is a 105 H/41.
But number 28989 IMO is likely impossible to identify for sure beyond noting that it seems to be a heavy field gun. Gun barrel and gun shield profile suggest that it might be 105 K/13, 105 K/29, 107 K/10 or 107 K/13.
As for self-propelled artillery - these would have been self-propelled for the first shot only.

It seems to be a P-12-25 / VRLHI "Ilmasuojeluvastaanotin" ( Air Raid Protection Receiver)
Any idea about the model of this AA fire director ??

Re: Id. Finnish equipment
Seems to be a m/37 Skoda T 7 n (Tn 7?) predictor at a 75mm Skoda Battery at Kouvola.
As the following photo( # 24862) also hints towards:

Thank you for your answer, Juha.
I've never seen any image of a Skoda T7n predictor, so it is difficult to ensure. However, the PUAZO 3 soviet predictor, which was a close copy of Czech Skoda T7n, seems a bit different...
On the other hand, can somebody identify these horse drawn wagons? Artillery limbers, ???

Nobody for my last image ??
Well, here another two images from SA-Kuva archive (35822-35552)
Image 1: I think a balloon theodolite of a meteorological unit
Image 2: I think an artillery theodolite.
Are these devices of Finnish manufacture or purchased abroad?

There was/is a Finnish manufacturer of meteorological instruments, Vaisala http://www.vaisala.com/en/Pages/default.aspx , but this one seems to be a German origin, Askania:

A forward observer used "suuntakehä" (Used for angular measurements and accurate direction finding. These were used by Finnish mortar crews as well as artillery crews – including observers to define firing directions of the various battery positions. )Sturm78 wrote:Here, another two images of optical devices:

Re: Id. Finnish equipment
Picture SA 35552 in the mail on August 14 shows Finnish "kiertokaukoputki" = German "Rundblickfernrohr" = English "panoramic telescope", which is mounted on the artillery gun´s sight unit unit and used (mainly) for indirect firing i.e. fixing the gun traverse. Several makes and versions with minor differences in their construction were used by the Finnish Army. Juha´s mail of yesterday shows one of these.
Picture SA 37890 in the mail on August 17 shows Finnish "asemasuuntakehä" = German "Richtkreis" = English "aiming circle", which is used for determining firing positions and directions. The particular model shown is Tampella-designed "asemasuuntakehä 34 malli I", which was also manufactured by Valtion Tykkitehdas.
