Patrolling:
At 20.15 our patrol 1+3+14 guided a GHQ patrol from the Russki rear to our side at the sector of III Btn. The patrol returned at 02.30hrs
At 02.45 returned Staff Sgt. Malinen's long range patrol that had set out on the night of 30.7. (1+4) from the terrain of Saarijärvi.
From “Tukki” an ambush patrol 1+1+2 at 20.00-02.00 in the no-man's land. No results.
A 03.00hrs a recce patrol (1+0+3) set out from “3”
Our mortar fired 9 rds at a Russki f.f. Working point in the terrain of “Sukka”.

Last night the 75mm AT gun that had been placed NW of Luotojärvi was moved S pf Ahvenjärvi near the other 75mm gun.
The wiretapping cable connected to a Russki “Light permanent” cable has been extended from the battle forepost “5” to the command post of 10.Coy where the listening takes place. Listeners are men from the listening platoon of the Div.
Last night the first written report of wiretapping was sent to 8.D. HQ.

The Commander last night ordered the Rgt.Officer to act as the controller of the planning of rear F.F. Work (K-line).

The Regiment has received ten horses with drivers as replacement.

18.00hrs Lt. Saaristo reported as transferred to JR4. He was posted in I/JR4.

At “Kämppä” terrain situated E of “Etu” f.f.work going on all day.
At “Tie” bearing 27-00 at the edge of the swamp Russki has been building a cover fence. AM: field fire smoke rising from the bog bearing 22-00
At 10.00hrs movement spotted at “Suunnikas”. Our sniper got 2 Russkies.

Air activities:
At 17.30hrs two IL-2 strafing the Siira and Loimola roads.

17.30hrs Lt. Poutiainen reported that Russki ground attack planes had fired at 4 horses of the HQ Coy, two died, two wounded.

Enemy shall attempt prisoner catching with 7 men.

The regiment received 22 replacements (“Nostomies”), [in German = Landwehr -Leute, tr.rem.] with a seven week training. Most of them are lame: stiff legs, one with osteomyelitis in arm, partly deaf etc. Scary ! (Sic!)

In general the recently received replacements have been posted in logistics duties. Younger men have been transferred from logistics to the front line.

Patrol 1+1+4 from Metsä out at 20.00-03.00 in the no-man's-land. Nothing special.

Our light mortar (I Btn) fired at enemy f.f. worksites in front of Metsä 6 rds.

The quantity of f.f.work tools of the Rgt are still under the defined number except saws. The ground being the rockiest the results are not as excellent as they were at Syväri.
Due to lack of tools the work is carried out in two shifts.

The Commander read the Order of the day of the C-in-C (struck out: Marshal) for everyone present and ordered everyone to take action as defined in it.
The Commander briefly described the situation, that of ours and that of our neighbours. He ordered that f.f.work must be concentrated in the first line and after that to the support line and the blocking lines. Logistics must be placed so that their dugouts could be of use for the K-line too.
The trenches must be dug to final depth. More foxholes are needed. Camouflaging must be improved. The wire hindrance must be built making use of the trees there.
The dugouts must be built as ordered in the Blue Book PM/44.
Barbed wire must be collected all over the Rgt. Sector.
Work control must be emphasized.
A plan of F.F work must be drawn up.
Discipline must be improved.
Every officer and NCO must wear their insignia.
The Rgt must be on the previous level as to discipline and other matters within a fortnight.
The Commander discussed the remarks made by the Division Logistics CO during his inspection on 4.8.

After the briefing the Commander treated the participants with sandwiches and surrogate coffee.

At 20.00 our new battle forepost. Previous one at “Korko” in the section of I Btn has been moved farther out 500m SE strenght 0+1+10

The camo fence at the road bearing 33-00 has been improved and the brushwoood hut at the E end has now been proven to be a weapons nest above ground.
At “ Kannas” at 12.45hrs two Russkies were spotted on a raft on Varpajärvi lake S. Our infantry fired at them, the Russkied dived and swam ashore.

Patrolling:
At “3” at 24.00hrs enemy 10 an patrol fired at our battle forepost, then withdrew.
Our recce patrol 1+3 out from Puro at 22.15. Was engaged in firefight by a MG about 70m from our wire. The patrol withdrew.
Our stalking patrol was stalking at 18.30-24.00 at an enemy outer sentry post in front of “7”. No result.
Our recce patrol set out at “8” at 21.00hrs, is not back by 04.30hrs

Captains Tenho, Paarma, Lehtonen, Wuorenheimo, Seilamo, Aromaa, Väisänen (3./Pion.P22), Luoto and Surgeon-Capt. Munsterhjelm
Lieutenants Olsson and Lindman.

The subject of briefing was the matters concerning JR4 and the outfits subjected to us mentioned in the attack order.

In addition to the said order the following:
II/15.Pr shall assemble an attack detachment on their left wing in the terrain SE of Luotolampi, leaving a minimal securing on the W parts of the section. One sapper platoon (of 3./Pion.P.22) shall be subjected to the Btn.
Disengaging to be carried out on 11.8. in the evening.
Coy. Väisänen less two platoons +Rgt. Jaeger platoon + Rgt. Sapper platoon shall relieve the right wing of the section as instructed by Capt. Venho.
The left wing of the section shall be manned by outfits detached from III Btn: One rifle Coy + Jeger platoon + Mortar platoon + 4 Mgs.
The change shall be carried out by 12.8.
Attack grouping:
II/15.Pr. :Behind the main defence line in the terrain SE of Luotolampi
II/JR4 to the left of them, stepped in the rear
Limit: Kiekunlampi NE shore, from there SE .
From Luotolampi 200m NE
From Sulasalmi to the forest line about 500m E to the SW tip of Suurijärvi
All preparations must be completed by 13.8.at 01.00hrs

Attack:
The objective of II/15.Pr is the Rokkalampi-Suurijärvi isthmus plus bridgehead position in the terrain Lomulampi-Suurijärvi.
II/JR4 shall follow immediately to the first mentioned isthmus where they shall turn E and roll the N shore of Varpajärvi up to Siira road and cut off that. As the rolling begins to have effect on the enemies in the positions our troops in their positions must advance to S.
III/JR4 shall distract the enemy in their section by performing a forced prisoner catching.
The same also I Btn on their section.
Artillery fire plan shall be distributed later.
One 120mm mortar shall support the attack at Kiekunlampi terrain.
S.A.as. (or 5.A.as.) (?) shall move at the Harju section road.
Rgt. Command units shall move to the present command post of II/JR4. Communication contacs shall be established to the terrain N of Luotolampi. Tel.switchboard shall be placed there to provide communications with the attacking units.
Attack plans must be sent to the Rgt HQ by 11.8. at 12.00hrs.

10.30hrs Report from 8.DHQ Norovuori/Olsson:
Next night a GHQ long range patrol shall arrive on our side. The Int.detachment shall escort them through the enemy line and our line. The agreed meeting point is the pond “93” N5200, E9610, where the said patrol shall arrive in the night between 23 to 01 hrs. They shall be guided to our side from there.
11.30hrs The abovementioned relayed to LT. Heikkilä.
11.00hrs Order to I Btn:
I Bnt must prepare for a forced recce mission on their section on the night 13.8. Exact time to be announced later. The plan for this must be sent to the Rgt HQ by 20.00hrs. By order Turva4.

14.30hrs Maj. Ikonen, 15.Pr. Logistics CO and the Surgeon of the Brigade reported to the Commander on matters of logistics.

Patrolling:
At 10 - 00 hrs Recce patrol out from Puro strenght 0+1+3 in the no-man's land. They found that the enemy has set up abatis and cut lines in the forest, made paths and set up observation posts. The patrol found a m/39 rifle on a swamp.
Our light mortar has fired 10 rds at the enemy timber cutting work in front of Saapas.7

The weather has become much warmer during the last few days.

22.35hrs Report from II/15.Pr.:Lehtonen/Simelius
2 recce patrols have been out from “Kova” in the no-man's land and they found enemy manning:
NE of Onkituslampi 500-600m at the elevation mark 45. Also Onkituslampi and the small pond isthmuses E of it are manned.
