F.F. Work
F.f work in front of Puro and Suo.
In front of Tie at 17.30hrs 20 rRusskies digging a trench.
Our light mortar fired 36 rds and the working was ended.
At the patch of forest SE of Suojärvi wire was being set up.

Traffic
At “Sukka” at 20.30hrs cart clanking SE and again at 21.10hrs
A corduroy road has been built from Suunnikas to Sukka. Found out by sound observations
03.40hrs cart clanking.

Patrolling
Patrolling in the no-man's land in front of Suo and Varsi. It was found that the enemy is in their previous positions.
The wiretapping cable has been connected again to the enemy phone cables in the terrain SW of Metsoinlampi (pine) forest.
At 03.30hrs the GHQ long distance patrol was guided to our side by the Int.Det.

Inf.arms fire more intense than usually at Ahvejärvi and Kaukojärvi sections.

Traffic
20-21hrs cart clanking in front of Suo and on the Siira road.

Patrolling
At 21.30hrs a patrol, strenght 15 men, set out to sweep the patch of forest at 5250, 9360 fron S to N. The enemy detected the patrol on their way out and opened fire from another patch of forest E of it that has so far been free of enemy. The patrol withdrew.
Patrol from “3” in the no-man's land.
At 22.30-03.20hrs loudspeaker transmission in front of Lukkko. Bad audio.
At 23.15hrs strong explosion heard in front of Lampi, followed by moaning.

08.00hrs Hard rain all night and previous evening.

12.30hrs Order from 8.D HQ Pietarinen/Simelius:
A training Company must be set up in the Rgt. rear comprising the elderly replacements that the Rgt has recently received and who have not been trained sufficiently.

“Knife rests” pulled out in the night SW of “Sukka”
Dugout work in front of “Tie”.
At 21.00-03.30 hrs our patrol in the no-man's-land out from “Metsä” found 50m corduroy road that had been built at the perimeter of the swamp NW of “r” of “ Rajaselkä”.
In front of Tie f.f.work groups about 30 men. Our mortar fired 18 rds and the work was stopped.
In front of “Hattu” f.f.work Our light mortar fired 14 rds, work ended.

Patrolling
At 15.00- 18.40hrs recce patrol from “Muuri” found f.f.work E of pt.94 and piling work bearing SW.
At 00.30hrs Heikkilä's long range patrol out from “6”.
Enemy four man partol in front of “Linna” Inf.fire drove them away.
At 22.30 our loudspeaker transmission from “Tie”. Not disturbed

Enemy patrol about one platoon managed to get in our positions between “3” and “4” at 17.00hrs. Tried to catch a prisoner in “3”. Our securing withdrew to “2” whereafter our reserve squad behind “3” repelled the enemy causing casualties to them. The enemy took their wounded with them, hitting also our minefield. The enemy caught as booty three of our backpacks.

F.F work
Our patrol has detected a three row wire in Rajaselkä terrain.

Patrolling
At 01.30 our prisoner catching patrol penetrated in the enemy positions in 5700, 9310 terrain (1100m SE of pt.109) supported by artillery and mortars. A strike detachment separated from the patrol and they rolled the trench and terrain for about 1000m N.
The patrol destroyed 40 enemies + 7 accommodation dugouts with crews, 10 LMG nests, 4 MG positions and 2 MG s. One prisoner taken. Our casualties 8 wounded.
Our arty and mortars fired 778 projectiles.
The patrol was led by Lt. Toikka and the strike force by Lt. Liuksiala.
Strike detachment 1+8+48, securing det. 1+3+18, distracting det. 1+2+5.
Patrolling in the no-man's land from “Kova” (1+4) and “saapas” (1+4). It was found that the enemy is in the previous positions.
At 21.00hrs our recce patrol (1+3) set out from “Niemi” for a two day mission in the rear of Rajaselkä.
At 01.30 two men of Lt. Heikkilä's long distance patrol returnd via “6”.
At 23.30hrs An enemy patrol of 2 or 3 men was detected in the rear at the N shore of Luotojärvi. Encirclement and pursuit in process.

07.00hrs The enemies spotted last night managed to escape. Securing was ordered to withdraw.

10.35hrs Prisoner taken last night: Tschuraj Hudajnasar who was brought wounded to the Rgt. HQ. The “Slobo” is from II/4/215.TKKP.
(Enemy) 215 grouping as follows:
In the front from S to N 1.Coy, 4.Coy, 3.Coy, 2. Coy in reserve. The right limit of the Btn likely to be at Uuskunjoki.

14.00hrs As ordered by Este4 the following redio message was sent to Heikkilä,n no. 1400/2:
“ Stores in Haahkankangas. Reconnoitre.”
14.00hrs. The Heikkilä men who returned last night reported as follows:
Sgt. Lindelöf: On 15.8 at 04-30-06.10hrs enemy column marching on the Haahka road to S comprising 80 to 100 laden horses. At the coordinate 5450 latitude at every 20th horse about ½ platoon Russkies.
At 06.30hrs three tractors heading N, the last one hauling a gun. The tractors stopoped at p.5300.

14.15hrs Abovementioned reported to 8.D. HQ.

The last mentioned shall be the resere for VI AC in the terrain of Repomäki.

The changes must be kept secret. Immediately before the II/15.Br is replaced the Btn shall be subjected to JR45, the left limit of which shall be moved to Suuri Niinilampi.

At 22.00-04.00 our patrol 1+4+16 reconnoitred the N side of the patch of forest NE of Latvajärvi, distance abt 1300m. It was found to be unmanned
Another patrol (1+4) found that the N side of another patch of forest W of the abovementioned was well manned.
At 03.47 – 04.05 observation balloon detected from Kannas bearing 20-40

Our mortar fire 34 rds at enemy positions N of Suurijärvi.

07.50hrs Radio message from Lt. Heikkilä 0605/43:
“Haahkankangas free of enemies. Russki camp area 4725, 9220. Ar 21.30hrs 6 field guns heading S, at 22.30hrs one horse heading S, at 02.00hrs automobile heading N. Next night road Uomaa-Käsnäselkä?”

The recce patrol 1+1+3 that set out on 15.8. at 22.00hrs returned to “6” at 05.00. The patrol reconnoitred roads SE of Rajaselkä. Branch on cart road at 5880, 9450 to N. On the line Metsoinlampi – Pt.117 no roads in direction W-E.

JR4, HQ WD continued.

Mostly rather boring daily routine but small highlights almost every day.
18.8.1944_

05.30hrs Situation report to 8.D HQ:
Enemy fire activities :
At “Puro”:20 pcs light mortar rds
At “Niemi”: 8 pcs 3” shells.
At “Korpi”: 20 pcs 3” shells
At “Saari”: 10 pcs 3” shells + 15 pcs light mortar rds.
At “Etu”: 15 pcs light mortar rds
At “Varsi”: 6 pcs light mortar rds

F.F work
At Ahvenjärvi sector f.f.work less intense than used to be.
In the terrain NE of Latvajärvi f.f.working

Traffic
At 18.15hrs on Siira road automobile buzzing

Enemy propaganda
01.00-03.00hrs at Siira road propaganda transmission. Nothing to mention.

Patrolling
At 22.00-23.00 our patrol 0+1+2 in the no-man's land found that the enemy is mining the terrain between “Sukka” and “Suunnikas”, there are also two above-ground weapons nests.
At 20.00 – 03.00 our patrol 0+1+2 in the no-man's land in front of “Metsä”.

Today the enemy troops W of Varpajärvi had a vodka distribution day. Music, singing and a lot of other noise was heard.
Our mortar fired 36 rds at the enemy weapons disturbing our f.f.work.
Our heavy mortar fired 17 rds at Karutjärvi section.

The completing training of the replacements born 1902-1911 received in the Regiment will be started in the Uuksunjärvi Boy Scout Camp on 19.8. comprising four courses one week each. The courses shall be led by Capt. Kannas of I Btn , training officers are Lts. Korkeavuori and Lopmeri and 2nd Lts Tuomola and Kataja..

Enemy fire activities :
At “Puro”: 13 pcs 3” shells.
At “Saapas”: 38 pcs 3” shells.
At “Suo”: 8 pcs 3” shells
At “Tie”: 40 pcs 3” shells + 8 pcs light mortar rds
At “Saari”: 10 pcs 3” shells + 15 pcs light mortar rds.
At “Haka”: 7 pcs 3” shells
At “Hotti”: 3 pcs heavy mortar rds.

F.F. Work:
In front of Ahvenjärvi sector lively working ( timber work).
In front of “3”(on the swamp) 30 enemies at mining and digging work, 08 – 09.20hrs. Our patrol 0+1+6 drove away the enemy.
In the enemy held “Kämppä” terrain all day f.f.fork ( timber cutting)

Patrolling
Yesterday at 19.30hrs our patrol 0+1+2 in the no-man's land spotted E of “8” 7 enemies at timber cutting. Also one enemy officer with two runners was seen in the same spot. Our patrol managed to take out the officer and the runners. The enemy f.f.work team forced our patrol to withdraw.
Our light mortar fied at Ahvenjärvi section 39 rds at enemy f.f.work sites.

F.F work
Some explosions in “Suunnikas” and “Sukka” and f.f.work.
In the terrain E of Saarijärvi f.f.working.
In the enemy held “Kämppä” terrain all night timber chopping and sawing.

Traffic
At 19.00hrs SE of Saarijärvi in the terrain automobile buzzing
At 18.20, 18.35, 19.02 hrs tractor sounds in Suurijärvi terrain
At 04.10 hrs automobile buzzinfg on Siira road

Patrolling
Our patrol 0+1+4 in the no-man's land in front of “3”. No particular observations.
At 21.00 recon patrol 0+1+3 set out to the terrain N of Metsoinlampi.
Our light mortar fired 53 rds at enemy worksites and the enemy auto weapons disturbing our f.f.work.

At 21.00-13.00 propaganda transmissions in front of Puro. Programme in the previous style.
Our artillery fired 20 shells counter-battery fire.

10.30hrs Radio message to Lt. Heikkilä:
“ Your 4 men are N of Metsoinlampi. They shall return on the night 20./21. Entry path OK.”

At 12.30hrs enemy sniper got a man who got an explosive bullet in his stomach
At 14.30hrs enemy sniper hit again a man in the neck, badly wounded
At “Lampi”: 13.35 hrs 4 pcs light mortar rds
At “Tie”: 13.00hrs 9 pcs 3” shells
At “Suo”: 8 pcs 3” shells
At “Niemi”: 10.30hrs 3 pcs 3” shells to the right.
At “Niemi”: 15.20hrs 3 pcs 3” shells to the right.
At “Niemi”: 12.45hrs 3 pcs 3” shells to the right.

F.F. Work:
At “Lampi”: 14.00hrs bearing 24-00 chopping.
