Re: MG with scope
Looks to be a field build using a captured Russian scope. Given that the top cover rattles from side to side and there are moving parts right under the points where the scope is fixed to it, I can't see it holding its zero very well.

Re: MG with scope
It would probably be a field modification or limited experiment, I don't think it's a Photoshop job (aside from converting it to grayscale - note gray arrows above the scope and shoulder).
I suspect the scope was mounted for better vision rather than accurate fire. As long as it didn't shake loose, it would work almost as well as having binoculars for finding your target, but have the benefit of being a lot faster from finding the target to firing the first burst. Considering the iron sights were not exactly still either, it should work - in theory. Given it's a rare sight (at least I've never seen it before), it might not have worked in practice, or at least not well enough to merit the effort.

Re: MG with scope
Hello
I have come to some of the same conclusions as above.
It seems to be a Russian Scope - PEM 4x Scope - and the MG 34 seems to be an early model, so it is probably around operation Barbarossa in 1941.
Field modification - use, for better viuw only, not stabile sight.
