Have a look at this;

http://www.achtungpanzer.com/88cm-flak- ... en-12t.htm

Apparently these flak guns were used for direct fire against defenses.

Hi

after a break for four monthes I will take up the challenge and continue the quiz. Who can ID this armored vehicle exactly?
Source of the pic: an expired ebay auction.

Bert

I don't think Rnox's blurry pic in post #185 can be an 88mm on a Sd.kfz.8, no way, cos the 88 on that halftrack could only elevate to +15°, and the tube in Rnox image is elevated much more than 15°.
I'd guess its likely a 37mm on one of its 3 different halftrack mounts.
Or maybe an ultra rare 5cm flak41 on Sd.kfz.7?

Definitely not an 88 on any type of chassis and I'm not sure about it being a halftrack either. Can I not see an exhaust running across the rear of the vehicle in the second pic ? This would suggest to me a Panzer I chassis perhaps with the 3,7cm Flak 36 on it as was seen at the end of the war when 11 PD was surrendering.

Alan, the 2nd photo looks like a different afv, definitely in a different position according to its buildings background, and it's labelled as an "amr35", a small French tankette. It's tracks look different to those in top foto

I'm pretty sure it's a 37mm flak 43, even tho the barrel looks too fat. This could be cos of fuzzy lighting effect. The diagnostic feature is the highlighted vertical tube to the immediate left of the barrel, that joins the armor shield. That's only on 37mm flak 43s.
The carrier has tracks at the back and what looks like a wheel at the front to the left of the wonky lamppost. So it's likely a halftrack, as that wheel sure looks like it's part of the same vehicle. The wheel has a straight mudguard over it, with what looks like a headlight on a stalk (but it could be a Notek). This seems to be diagnostic of an SWS, which never had round mudguards. Don't think the Sd.kfz. 7s had straight mudguards with lights on stalks on them. There doesn't appear to be an armor cab, so it maybe the unarmored truck version, but the Armored SWS had quite a low cab, so it maybe there. I'm not sure if the unarmored SWS flak version had the big wooden stores box at the rear of the loadbed like all Armored SWS flak had. But there's no box visible on this afvs rear. The Great Wall hobby firm's kit of unarmored SWS flak hasn't got any rear storage box.
My 2 cents = it's a unarmored SWS flak 43.
