Re: Axis Armored Vehicles Quiz
Rich, correct. I too have seen it called the VK 13.01 but since this photograph appears "Autumn Gale" in the section about the history of Pz Jgr Abt 559 who used it and they called it the 901 I've had to take their word for it.

'''My goodness it is two Pz.Sfl.Ic of the 3rd Company of Panzer-Jäger battalion (Sfl.) 559) moving through Kloster Zinna'''
Sorry, I just found that info from google images, great photo though of a tank I never knew existed until today so thanks for posting it.

Re: Axis Armored Vehicles Quiz
Hi Alan, hi Yan,
this vehicles has the designation VK 1602 in the book "Die deutschen Panzer 1926 - 1945" by F. M. von Senger und Etterlin, the predecessor of the "Leopard" with open turret and 5cm Kwk L/60 from the year 1941.
Regards
Bert

Re: Axis Armored Vehicles Quiz
Bert, similar to the 901 but not the same superstructure front I think, I can't see a visor on an angled side on "my" pic so we have to stick with what the unit claimed to be using and let it be Rich's turn.

Re: Axis Armored Vehicles Quiz
Hi Alan,
of course, I agrre with You that it is Rich's turn. I have only the problem, that VK 901 in the book "Die deutschen Panzer 1926 - 1945" by F. M. von Senger und Etterlin is looking different.
Best regards
Bert

Re: Axis Armored Vehicles Quiz
HI Guys,
I had to go to Jentz' Panzer Tracts to fine tune my answer - Spielberger is confusing to me on these vehicles. Alan & Bert - both of your photos are of the same vehicle. Specifications for a prototype were issued and 2 vehicles were actually built. Both vehicles seemed to have been used in combat and were apparently destroyed or otherwise lost.
Alan - your photo actually shows both vehicles as the second is just visible behind the first vehicle. This is one of 3 known photos of these scarce vehicles. Hopefully more be found in the future.
Here is my next quiz subject......

Re: Axis Armored Vehicles Quiz
Is it a Panzerkampfwagen II Ausf G, or other designation Pz Kpfw II nA (VK901)?

Re: Axis Armored Vehicles Quiz
The problem is that they all looked the same, for example von Senger und Etterlin in his "German Tanks of WW2" comments that the VK 901 and 1301 were virtually identical except for the pattern stamped on the wheels ! So if I got it wrong because the unit using them got it wrong then I hope I'll be forgiven.

Hi Ian
Yes it is your turn.

Re: Axis Armored Vehicles Quiz
Since the specimen appears to have been in police use, it's designation would probably have been transliterated into polician (just to keep things clear): something like Ketten-Panzerkraftwagen II (VK 901).

Re: Axis Armored Vehicles Quiz
Hi everyone, here is my pathetic attempt at fooling you guys, I know that this will be a simple challenge for you all, as you are way ahead of me. I do recall adding this vehicle to my site some years ago, I was quite surprised when I found it because all of my books didn’t even mention it.
