Re: Panzer IV w/ Zimmerit in Viborg Denmark
You're very welcome to use my photographs for further research. All I ever ask is a link in return, which you already added
The photograph of -14 (could theoretically be 014, too) is interesting, as it is the only time I've seen a 233 turret number with an outline.
Here's another one from the same garage (actually the old bus station, according to a member of Viborg's historical archive):

very possible "014", normally command tank in other units. I find it fascinating that they had such badass tanks sitting almost idle when they could have been used in other parts of the front. Did the 233rd move South, or did they man the position until capture?

We are investigating some information about a tank that was driven into a rather deep pond at Klostermarken, an area for the soldiers, about 2 kilometers from the barracks in Viborg (or what use to be the barracks). The tank should still be in the lake. It is muddy water and difficult to examine even for vehicles this size.
Has anyone heard about that? It is about 2 kilometers from the barracks in Viborg (or what use to be the barracks).
The driver must have had some sort of punishment? I wonder if it is possible to find such thing in the German files.
I was told about the Tank in childhood, I am born in 1956 and the pond is less than one K from my child hood home.

Hello
Anyone for the story above??
And for this photo - is that a unit emblem on the shield - 233. Res. Pz. Div. Panzer IV in Viborg Denmark 1944?
Regards

This is the only 233 tank I have ever seen with an emblem. My guess is that it is a personal marking rather than a unit one.
Regarding the tank in the lake, there are a couple of photos of a Landwasserschlepper anphibious tracked vehicle in Vejle around 1943 to 1944. Perhaps this could be related?

I recently found some documentation that can explain some of the vehicles found in Denmark after the war:
