The Wehrmacht and spiritual support to the troops.

Post by tigre » 07 Dec 2014 18:40

Hello to all :D; a new topic trying to find out what was the spiritual support given to the German troops and foreign in the Waffen SS Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox, Muslim.................

The Wehrmacht and spiritual support to the troops.

Speaking about war chaplains first they had to deal with the morality of the war itself and second with a regime whose ideology was so radical with a policy that neglected the Church.

Read this book: The Ochre Robe by Swami Agehananda Bharati.

This is the autobiography of Leopold Fischer. As a boy in Vienna, he developed an interest in Hinduism and Indian languages. He was conscripted into the Wehrmacht and ended up in the Indian Free Legion, where he sometimes acted as a priest. After release from Allied detention as a POW (the British thought him extremely dangerous), he went to India and was initiated as a Hindu monk.

It's an absolutely fascinating story in every way.

One of my favorite authors is Deitrich Bonhoeffer who was killed days before the surrender for being a member of theresistance. He was very critical of the support the church gave to the regime
