Thank you all that’s actually quite useful info, I think I have enough to make it fairly general.

The field kitchen appears to be a captured Polish Type M 31. It was built pre-war so is of little use in dating the photo other than after the invasion of Poland.
Cheers,
Max

Interesting , but I can't see these types of field kitchens being used after the winter of 1941 , they would break down quite easily in extreme weather . I believe this photo was either taken during the end phase of the invasion of Poland or in the autumn of 1941 during operation Barbarossa .

I tend to agree. Just for general interest here is a photo of some Polish field kitchens, among other equipment captured during the invasion:

Only thing which worries me are trees. This is not like tree branches look like in France in May/June...

Could be earlier in the year during the Phoney War.

I don’t think so apparently it was taken at Haguenau, Alsace. So France - until it was annexed again that is. Possibly it was later in 1940?

I think this man belongs a Mediterranean ( more generally tropical ) U Boat fleet . The badge on his right side is the Tropical Breast Eagle .

Very new uniform still without shoulder boards. My bet is a soldier before his transfer to the mediterrean theater. But I won´t say U-Boat but general service.

Hi, does anyone know the ranks of these Reichsbahn personnel, or a bit information about their uniform?

The man on the right is an official of pay group 8 or 7a or a supernumerary official of pay group 7. His actual "rank" designation depends on his occupational specialty; he could be a Kanzleisekretär, Kanzleivorsteher, Reichsbahnobersekretär, Vermessungsobersekretär, Lokomotivbetriebsrevisor, Betriebsoberwerkmeister or Oberlokomotivführer. There's no way to tell for the man on the left.

Not much to say about the uniforms; they are wearing normal Reichsbahn service dress.

From the badges and insignia, it's probably an early-war photograph. (The sidecap for men as worn by the official on the left was introduced around the outbreak of war. However, his colleague is not yet wearing the large wings on the cap band of the service cap and the duty station insignia on the left upper tunic sleeve, both of which were introduced in 1941.)
