Yes, of course. The elements of the Kriegsmarine wearing the field grey uniform included all rank groups.

The shades of blue can be deceiving in digital photographs, but the buttons (anchor buttons vs. plain pebbled ones) are a simple way to tell them apart.

Getting back to the question in post # 150, here's an example for the collar patches worn on the field-grey Navy uniform by officers below admiral rank:

thx @Kriegsarine Großadmiral. Very interesting. On which occasion did the Officers wore the field grey uniform? It seems logical that the Marine-Infanerie Bataillons and later Divisions from 1945 were dressed in field grey. Saying that, most Marine officer of the Marine Infanterie Divisionen were replaced by Heer officers after a very short time.

The entire naval coastal artillery were uniformed in field grey.

Hi,

thx for the answer. Now that you mentioned it, i remember seeing some photos of coastal artillery, but never of an officer. And never in Colour.

So the staff members of - for example - the Marineoberkommando West, the kommandierender Admiral Kanalküste or the Kommandant der Seeveteidigung Calais had normal Kriegsmarine uniforms, only the members of the Marine-Artillery Abteilungen wore the field grey uniform?

No.

A number of different land-based branches/units wore field grey; coastal artillery was just the first one that came to mind, as it is the best-known (and probably numerically the strongest one) of them.

Other examples are naval construction units, motor transport units, POW camp guards and other land-based security personnel, personnel of arsenals, workshops and depots, fire protection teams etc.

Is the officer on the left wearing the Küstenartillerie Feldgrau uniform? Can anyone recognize his rank? The collar tabs seem odd to me. I wonder if he is possibly an admiral wearing the Feldgrau uniform? What is the bright part on his left sleeve? Sleeve rank insignia or his white shirt that he's wearing beneath the uniform?
Thanks

What is the bright part on his left sleeve?

Does someone know the background of this picture? Looks like a mix uniform.
