Sturm.........yes
Mark, am thinking now of U 624 or U 628. Both fitted with FUMO May/June 1942.
Tell me more on the technical staff, what makes you think that could be an officer from there?
No list of fumo anywhere. Have asked that question before.
Watching Das Boot, new serialon Now TV. Interesting and unlike the film.

Hi Nobby, First the gent on the left of the white capped man seems to have an administrator badge above his wrist. The white cap was summer dress as you know but this gent could the rank of captain, some of the officers and others are not wearing headgear which is strange. There is no sign of an Admiral or their hangers-on so these pics could have been taken after the commission-ceremony but on the same day.
I checked the weather over Hamburg over three days 27th, 28th and 29th of May 1942 and in each 24 period it rained, so it could be U 628 we are looking at.
I will send you the website in a day or two so you can see for yourself.
Regards MH.

Hi there,
it is U 636. All B & V boats from U 623 till U 954 were commissioned with FuMO 29.

Hi Thanks for the info, Nobby did mention to me in an email that he suspected U 636.
In March 1943 Captain Peters U boats Norway mentioned that he only had two radar active boats U 625 and U 629, this gave me problems as I identified
U 435 in Bergen while a FuMO29 551-650 series passed it on the 30th November 1942.
This thanks to you I now know is U 626.

Hi, Not sure what you mean but this is a BV 551-650 series. The three points I look for are 1 The horseshoe shaped speaker bracket near the flagpole.
2 The horn like tubing coming from the bottom of the wintergarden and the end bent towards the stern. U 570 had the first bent one I think, previous boats had straight final top sections.
3 The rear railing support on the 551-650 series the rope cleats attached to the deck are on the stern side of the vertical support bar.
