You don't want to count how many times I've played it :D Especially this year (no particular reason, it just got stuck in my mind... to be precise, the "Als die Preußen marschierten vor Prag" catchy tune haunts me nearly every day).

Cheers,
Ivan

And still no text of the last song deciphered ("Die Kraftradschützen, die sind wir" on "Hipp, hipp, hurrah" melody)?

Well, mr. Auceps :D here and I tried to recognize the lyrics five years ago and it was not 100% successfully.

hipp, hipp, hurra, hipp, hipp, hurra!
Auf uns kann sich die Heimat stützen,
hipp, hipp, hurra, die MGK!

Hahah, yes, I remember that, Herr Fallersleben. :D And it seems that now we have less gaps in the lyrics than at those time.

Only another guess for the last gap: "... die M. G. K.!"; MGK = Maschinengewehr-Kompanie

Wow it does sound like that and it does make sense. In any case, great thinking, F., I would never have thought of that.

Cheers,
Ivan

Similar passages here. They changed MG-Schützen into Kraftradschützen for that Potpourri?!

Not only, I think they've also changed 'des deutschen Mannes schönste Zier sind Mut und Tapferkeit' to 'des Vaterlandes höchste Zier voll Mut und Tapferkeit' and 'das sind wir' to 'die sind wir'?

Another interesting thing: If the 'MG'-version was recorded after the Infanterie-Regiment 9, which was stationed in Potsdam, then no wonder that the Kraftradschützen stationed in Stahnsdorf, which is nearby, might even heard the original version from their neighbours and made some 'corrections'. Or, maybe, it was the other way around.

Hello, F. & A.

Yes, the lyrics are indeed almost identical to those used in the Kraftradschützen recording. Notice also the MGK acronym at the bottom of the page ;) Too bad the refrain isn't there!

Cheers,
Ivan

Finally, the original lyrics, printed in c. 1940:
Die Kraftradschützen, die sind wir

1. Die Kraftradschützen, die sind wir,
zum Kampfe stets bereit,
des Vaterlandes höchste Zier,
voll Mut und Tapferkeit.

Wir halten unsr'e Waffen hoch
und räumen nie das Feld;
eh' stirbt ein braver MG-Schütz'
fürs Vaterland als Held.

Ja! Wir sind die Garde-Kraftradschützen
- hipp, hipp, hurra, hipp, hipp, hurra!
Auf uns kann sich die Heimat stützen
- hipp, hipp, hurra, die MGK!

Ja! Wir sind die Garde-Kraftradschützen...

3. Kehrt unser Hauptmann siegreich heim
zurück aus dieser Schlacht,
dann heißt es: "Schützen, Mann für Mann,
Gewehr an Ort gebracht!"

Dem Feind soll alle Lust vergeh'n,
vergessen soll er's nie;
und kampfbereit soll immer steh'n
die Kraftrad-Kompanie!

Ja! Wir sind die Garde-Kraftradschützen...

As you can see, you guys did great on the first verse & refrain.

Cheers,
Ivan

Ah, great! Thank you very much again, Ivan! Couldn't recognize that it was 'eh' (so 'ehe') stirbt...', which makes sense of course. :D But I actually wonder, why are they 'Garde'? I guess both me and Fallersleben have heard that of course, but it didn't make much sense, since there was no 'Garde' in the Wehrmacht.
