I've just finished reading Robert Harris' Fatherland, has anyone here read that as well? I think it's pretty interesting, the idea of what if Germany won the WWII what the wold will be like. Anyway, I've come across a name of Joseph P. kennedy who in the novel a President of the United States. I was wondering if he really exist and if he do, who is he. Can you guys tell me? Thank you

Yes, there really was a Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. He was an ambassador to Great Britain during the 30's and was also very, very rich. His son John F. Kennedy went on to become a U.S. President. A very good book on J.P. Kennedy Sr. is called "The Sins of the Father : Joseph P. Kennedy & the Dynasty He Founded" By Ronald Kessler. You can also do a search in yahoo and come up with some brief history on him also.

I've read the book and have seen the movie. While it is an intriguing story and the movie pays attention to detail (i.e. the correct code on the auto license plates for cars registered in Third Reich Berlin), there is a big error concerning Joseph Kennedy. Kennedy had suffered a stroke before 1963 and therefore could not have been functioning as president of the US in 1964 when the story is set.

Their was an Joseph Kennedy older brother of JFK & RFK. He die in a
aircraft accident piloting a B-24 filled with explosives.

The plan was to remotely control the plane after take off into a german bunker that housed one of the german wonder weapons.

After take off, Joe and his co-pilot were to bail out, then a chase plane would radio the plane into the bunker. The plane exploded early, killing the pilots.

Joseph was being groomed for the run to the White House by his father. With Joe's death, Jack was next up.

BTW this book has already been filmed. The main German character is played by Rutger Hauer I believe...
