Hi - so, here is the same figure printed using the higher resolution setting. It looks pretty good (I think).

I am also attaching a screen image of the build software showing the file that is to be printed. Of course the level of detail of the printed part is limited to the physical detail on the actual file. I think the printer did a very good job recreating the file.

Hi - Since I am almost done printing my 28cm Bruno prototype, I incorporated any lessons learned regarding whether extra supports were needed or where to thicken parts etc into the design files and started to print my second Bruno copy. In some places, I had removed smaller details from the prototype because I didn't think they would print - in many situations, I added back those details (like hand cranks and railings in some cases) because I now am better informed as to what the printer can do and what it can't. I also tried to position the model parts better so that I minimized areas where details became obscured because supports were attached too close to them. I also decided that I liked the grey resin better than the black (black appeared to be somewhat flexible and I was looking more for rigid but not too brittle).

Here is the reprint (as printed and not cleaned up any) of the front section of the carriage -

Hi - just a couple of pictures showing the front section partially cleaned up along with the rear center section.
The railings and ladders are always a problem - they are hard to clean up if printed separately and they often are
just too small and delicate to print and keep straight. I thickened them up just a bit and integrated then into some
of the sections - so far, so good.

With the carriage coming along, I have started to look at what to do for the truck assemblies, wheels, axles, springs and journals. I will need quite a few. I recently had printed a set of standard wheels and parts using shapeways (see photo). Today, I ran a test print of several files just to test how the Form 2 would do. I was planning to integrate the springs and journals onto the truck assemblies since I thought they were too small to print as separate parts but as the test parts show, I think they can be done separately (which will enhance the overall level of detail of the trucks).
The parts are still wet with alcohol and need to be cleaned up a bit.

Hi - just a few updates on project Bruno.

In Bruno Rev 2, I tried integrating the railing into the various parts
just to try and keep the railings as straight as possible. They tend to
droop and warp when printing separately. First attempt was a total
failure (but probably not because of the railings). This is a big let down
when a print fails 10 hours into a 12 hour print so I decided to section
some parts up more just to reduce cost of failures if they happen.

I included a picture of the front center section failure so that anyone
interested can see what happens. I also included a picture showing how
I sectioned up the same piece.

Some pictures of my first attempt at printing the railway truck assemblies (boggies).
I integrated the springs and journals into the model which worked rather well.
They have retained quite a bit a detail and look nice even through they are not
separate parts. I'll do the brakes separately and also the wheels separately so that
they will be able to turn.

I had to split the model into two halves just because of size restrictions...
