Pionier-Bataillon 39 commander, 1940

Post by CNE503 » 04 Aug 2017 11:09

Hello,

Does anyone know who was commander of this battalion on May 10th, 1940?
I've read that it might have been Major Hermann von Mertens, but I need a confirmation of his identity and rank at this time.
Thank you!
Cheers,

Scherzer´s Militaire-Verlag lists Major Fritz Beigel from October 1939 to 27th September 1941.

hucks216,

That's great! Thanks a lot!
Do I abuse if I ask whether you have the same for the same day and the following units?

3. Panzer-Division:
- Panzerjäger Abteilung 39: ???
- Nachrichten-Abteilung 39: ???
-
4. Panzer-Division:
- Panzerjäger Abteilung 49: Major Hermann Wedra?
- Nachrichten-Abteilung 79: Major (first name?) Loibl?
- Pionier-Bataillon 79: Hauptmann (first name?) Bujard?

Thanks again!
Cheers,

From the two cards posted by Hucks, it appears as if Mertens was in command in 1940. But the Generalskartei says otherwise, so I assume that Beigel is correct. The Pionier cards probably ran out of space for later assignments.
