ASL Pacific Campaign Scenario:
Title Leyte Reaction
Date: December 18, 1944
Location: Leyte, The Phillippines
Situation: The U. S. Plan to retake the Philippines was stalled on Leyte. Both Japanese, and U. S. Commands continued to send in Reinforcements.
To Break the stalemate, U S Forces conducted amphibious landings behind the Japanese. The Japanese Command also continued to bring in Reinforcements from Luzon, that practically followed in the wake of U S Landings.
U.S. Forces were tasked with closing off beach entry points along Highway 2, from the North and South Task Groups.
Japanese Forces were ordered to keep such points open, setting up blocking detachments, using Bunkers and Trenches. U S Forces were advised to flank Japanese Positions, in some cases flanking was not possible. At Valencia, the battle for Highway 2 continued.

PTO Terrain Rules G:
1. Roads on Board 65 and Board 42 Exist , to represent Highway 2 on Leyte
Jungle Rules State that Woods and Brush unless stated otherwise are Dense Jungle, Dense Jungle occupies an entire Hex , extending across Hexsides
Line of Sight or Fire Attacks traced along such a Hex side are Blocked.
2. Woods and Brush are Dense Jungle and Bamboo unless Stated otherwise/
Woods /Dense Jungle is a Level 2 High /Bamboo is Level 1 High
To Enter Woods/DJ cost Infantry 2MF/Using Path still costs 2 MF/ TEM vs IFT attacks +2
Bamboo requires an Infantry Unit to be next to such a Hex to enter costing all that Infantry MF/ TEM vs IFT attacks +1/HE attacks/OBA -1
Minimum move for defensive Fire purpose 3 MF/ or a Unit Defensive Firing may Fire 3 Times/Maintaining ROF/or if Moving Unit is attempting to Enter Hex.
Fortifications/Entrenchments may not be Placed in Bamboo / only a Pillbox may Setup in Bamboo/Guns may setup in Bamboo /suffer increased
Fire Penalties. SSR stating that Hedges are Wire, next to Brush Hexes are Considered in the Hex Adjacent not in the Bamboo Hex

3. Grain Hexes are Kunai, or tall Grass, Infantry MF costs 2 MF per Hex to Enter/TEM is 0/Moving thru such Hex voids the FFMO -1 IFT attack DRM

Jungle Terrain presents advantages and disadvantages for placing Units /Fortifications and for Units that must navigate either thru or around such terrain to Fire on Defending Units/
1. Line of Sight on Board 42 is highly restrictive, even along the Road/Bush/Bamboo Hexes / Jungle Hexes fill the entire Hex and extend over Hex sides
allowing units to move into some hexes free from Line of Sight and Fire attacks
2. Pill Boxes have advantages /disadvantages/Once a Pill Box is Placed, it may not be Moved to another Hex or rotate like a Turret
Pill Box w/Units inside may setup Hidden/Secretly Recorded on Sheet of Paper during Setup/
Pill box may maintain Hidden Status even if Opposing Unit enters Hex/
Searching is one way of discovering Hidden Units during a Player Move Phase/ a dr is made to determine the # of Hexes that the Search DOES Not Apply
