Help with German text from AOK 10 - 10 Sep 43

Hi,

I've tried Google translate, but can anyone help refine this translation:
Ein Fallsch.Jg.Btl. greift bei Battipaglia an. Der Feind wird nach zähem Widerstand geworfen, eine grössere Anzahl von Gefangenen wird eingebracht.
A Fallsch.Jg.Btl. attacks at Battipaglia. The enemy is thrown after tough resistance, a larger number of prisoners is brought in.
My version is:

"A Fallsch.Btl. attacks Battipaglia. The enemy is defeated after heavy resistance, a large number of prisoners are captured".

Although I thought that "greift" meant "seizes".

Thanks for any help.

Regards

Tom

Hello Tom,

I agree in general with your translation but I doubt that "defeated" is the fitting translation in "Der Feind wird nach zähem Widerstand geworfen". In this case "geworfen" is from "hinauswerfen" = evict, throw out, namely the enemy from his positions/trenches.

Hi,

Can anyone confirm that the German term 'übernimmt Befehl über' is used to mean 'take command of'. For example,
Brigadestab z.b.V. der Pz.Gen.Div.H.G. übernimmt Befehl über Kampfgruppe Pz.Gren.Rgt. 115 (Neapel) und III./Fallschirmjäger Rgt. 1.
would mean that

'the special employment Brigade HQ of Pz. Gen. Div. H.G. is to take command of Kampfgruppe Pz.Gren. Regt. 115 and III/FGR 1'.

Thanks for any help.

Regards

Tom
