There is a brief Canadian War Diary reference to a knocked out Tiger (with dead crew member) in the area where '231' came to rest.

its pretty amazing if he was discovered by the Allied troops that his name tag was intact, and after all these years he was identified and is in Le Cambre. I imagine he was temporarily buried somewhere and then moved, and the fact his name and ID were intact after all that is pretty amazing.

From what I have read here Tank commanders such as MW moved tanks often but the crew and loaders etc tended to stay with a tank. Is there any info on who was commanding 231 at this time in July? and who the crew was? how far into the archives do you need to go to find this out if possible?

Another book, published by Heimdal in 2016, Is supposed to be the definitive account although like much of Heimdal's publications it is written in French text only. Sometimes they do an English text reprint depending upon the demand I would assume. Here is the book:

Excellent thread. Are the other names of the crews known that took part in the action(s) on August 8, 1944. In particular, I would like to know if more is known of SS-Sturmmann Schiller, W. (2. Kie)?
