The Rolling Stones performed in Poland in 1967, the Beatles were going to too but eventually it didn't happen.

You present an important point.

The Iron Curtain countries weren't uniform in conformity. The Atlantic Alliance countries also were not.

Like the Rolling Stones in 1967 Poland, DeGaulle recognized PR China and Yugoslavia was far from solid political alignment with Moscow.

The joke here was that to get a Cuban cigar, one had to travel to Canada.

Greetings to both brother South and the community as a whole. Howdy Bob! LONG TIME NO TALK TO! Well sir, in ight of your introductory posting of Thursday - April 25, 2019 -1:20am, old yours truly does find it more than a wee bit ironic that the social and musical phenomena that came to be known as ROCK AND ROLL was also "credited", in part, with the dissolution of both the Warsaw Pact Alliance AND subsequently, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. After all, when you and I were in our younger years, how often did we both hear that DRUGS, SEX and ROCK AND ROLL were tools of subversion by the so-called International Communist Conspiracy? In retrospect, I suppose both RADIO FREE EUROPE and the United States Armed Forces Television And Radio Network turned out to be the BEST OFFENSVIE WEAPONS in the arsenal of the Atlantic Alliance. To this very day, I often do wonder what our counterparts in the now former Eastern Block thought of the two comedians that came to be known as CHEECH AND CHONG. Finally, if my now quite fading recollection serves, was WE'VE GOT TO GET OUT OF THIS PLACE not the unofficial and de facto theme song of the United States Army? Well, that's my initial two Yankee cents worth on this sojourn into the sordid days of my youth - for now anyway. AS ALWAYS, I would like to bid you an especially copacetic day over in your corner of the OLD DOMINION that is the Commonwealth of Virginia.
