Searching for Romanian Interwar Armament Publications

#1

Post by Winnie the Vladimir Pootin » 04 Jul 2019, 04:28

Greetings Axis Forum Members,

In my studies regarding interwar armaments in Eastern Europe, I've had a difficult time with Romania. I've found plenty of sources on artillery conversions, light armament acquisitions, orders of battle etc. from 1939 onward, but a complete dearth of anything prior. I have found in Romanian language sources that the 1934 General Staff (led by then BG Ion Antonescu) developed a thorough equipment inventories as well as a modernization plan, approved in 1935 by the Supreme Council of National Defense as the "Planul decenal de înzestrare și dotare a armatei" or roughly "the Decade of Arms Endowment" (my Romanian is based on my knowledge of French, so dreadful at best).

I'm almost certain this document would have the information I'm looking for, but I've been unable to find it or any secondary source that offers more than a surface level summary. So my query to you dear forum members is;

Does anyone have a link to the study, or know of a source (Print or online, Romanian or otherwise) that offers more details of its contents?
Or, happen to have a different source on interwar Romanian armaments, particularly in small arms?

For context, I'll throw in the links to the two Romanian language sources I have that make reference to it.

Thank you so much for your help and time.

Apologies, I completely forgot about this.

I have a paper, in Romanian, coordinated by a director of National Institute for Political Studies and Military History which covers Interwar (the scope of the papers is from middle XIX century since WW2.

There are some articles there which covers specifically 1918 - 1939. If you drop me an email on private message I can send you the pdf.

I've found some articles on this topic, in Romanian:

Evolution of national defense system and military politics in interwar:
https://www.scribd.com/doc/123850437/EV ... NTERBELICA

Romanian Army equipment in Interwar (selection of documents):
http://amnr.defense.ro/app/webroot/file ... _vol_2.pdf

Selection of various articles on Romanian General Headquarter activity with short summaries in French. Some articles tackles exactly the issue of equipment in interwar.
http://amnr.defense.ro/app/webroot/file ... 9-2009.pdf

I think the following parts may be useful:
- Premises of army development at the start of XX century (page 50)
- The introduction of tanks and specific organizational structures (page 113)
- The conception of Romanian High Command concerning the situation from Eastern frontier (page 146)
- Concerns of decision factors about the tanks in 1919-1945 (page 156)
- An unusual document concerning the collaboration between Romanian and Czechoslovak armies in Interwar (page 1972)

All of them are readable with google translate. Feel free to message me to translate parts that you cannot understand. I'll keep looking for that plan...
