Hitler's first broadcast

Post by Alexander Nasman » 30 Jul 2019 06:23

Does anyone know when Hitler made his first radio broadcast? Was he able to go on-air before 1933?

According to several sources (inc. Domarus), Hitler spoke for the first time in national radio broadcast on the 1st of February 1933 at 10pm.

Two days before Reichstag elections, Gregor Strasser instead of Hitler, gave a radio speech outlining NSDAP program (29th July 1932).

On the 18th of July 1932 party's leaders were allowed to speak on the radio for the first time during Reichstag election campaign.
Hitler refused. Goebbels gave a short speech instead.

There was a plan for Hitler to give an address to US radio listeners on the evening of 11th December 1931.
That never happened because of "technical difficulties".

Thank you, both Greg and Annelie. Both superb posts.

So, I'm a little fuzzy - was he banned from radio broadcasting till 1932? Seems remarkable that Germans had never heard him on the radio until after he became chancellor!

Remember

On February 1, 1933, two days after he was appointed chancellor, Hitler spoke over the radio to the German people about his vision for the future of the country:

https://www.facinghistory.org/holocaust ... io-address

until then he wasn't or had the position to be able to speak/address to the country over the radio nationally

On hind sight its too bad they hadn't because perhaps the country would hear what a person he was and maybe he
wouldn't have gotten the appointment?

According to official statistical data, in 1931 there were 4 million registered radio users in Germany (population ~63 mln).
