5./JG 2 Richthofen

Hi,
I recently bought an old cigarette case which bears the following engraving: "Unserem Staffelkapitän zum 29. Geburtstag. 5. JG 'Richthofen' Nr. 2"
Who could help me to identify this squadron cdr.? 29 years was pretty old for the job...

When? There were probably 20 to 30 of them over the course of the Geschwader's existence.

Hi, I would estimate 8 - 10 during the five years of war, similar to the number of Group Commanders and Geschwader Kommodores. And I checked some KC recipients from JG 2, they were mostly much younger than 29 years during the war - or didn't reach that age...

What about author Eric Mombeek's recent multi-volume unit history of JG 2? Surely this would have a list of Stellungsbesetzungen that would identify each and every Staka of 5. Staffel?
